I’m sure by now you all know that I’m constantly trying to find products that are better for my family. I recently learned about Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil and we were given the opportunity to sample it in our home.
Here is a little about the founders from their website:
Brian W. Shilhavy, BA, MA earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible/Greek from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and his Master of Arts degree in linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. He is currently the CEO of Tropical Traditions, Inc.
Marianita Jader Shilhavy, BS, CND (Certified Nutritionist/Dietician in the Philippines) earned her bachelor of science degree in nutrition in Manila. Understanding the nutrition of Filipino foods, Marianita worked for over eight years as a hospital dietician and nutritional counselor in the Philippines.
In 1998 Brian and Marianita returned to the Philippines with their three children and renovated Marianita’s old family farmhouse. By this time the coconut industry was severely depressed due to the negative U.S. campaigns against tropical oils in the 1980s and 1990s. Coconut farmers could no longer support their families on the income generated from harvesting coconuts.
Here is a short video on how they discovered virgin coconut oil.
This Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil is unrefined and is made with organic coconuts. Fresh coconuts are used and only the best are hand-picked from each harvest. The fresh coconut meat is then shredded and then cold-pressed using the water that is inside of the coconut to make coconut milk. The milk is then allowed to sit for about 12 hours while the oil naturally separates from the milk.

Since we’ve had our jar of Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil I’ve been using it just as I would my olive oil or vegetable oil. I wasn’t sure how I would like it and was quite intimidated when I first got it but, I’ve used it to make a cake, chicken and fish. The coconut oil gives off a lovely aroma as its cooking and also gives a nice hint of coconut in your dish.
I also received a book that is full of information about virgin coconut oil and can’t wait to try out all the recipes. They all sound so yummy!
While I can’t make any claims as to the help benefits of virgin coconut oil, I highly suggest that you do some of your own research. I think you will be very surprised.

Today less than 1% of the people living in the U.S. are farmers.
I learned that you let the coconut milk stand in a covered container for about 24 hours. After about 24 hours, the oil naturally separates from the water producing a crystal clear oil that retains the full scent and taste of coconuts

It’s a pretty frightening thought that less than one percent of the US population are farmers. Farm land is being gobbled up by greedy developers, and yet we all must eat. I am pleased that you are offering such a high quality product as a giveaway. I understand coconut oil is good for people with thyroid issues.
