Skin Free Review and $30.00 Gift Certificate Giveaway (Closed)

skin free logo

I was recently given the opportunity to try a 100% natural skin care line that is pharmacist formulated and doctor recommended.  Skin Free is recommended for individuals that suffer from:

  • Extreme Dry Skin
  • Skin or Fragrance Allergies
  • Psoriasis
  • Dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Pregnant Moms
  • Babies
  • The Elderly
  • Diabetics
  • Renal Patients
  • After Radiation or Chemotherapy

I don’t suffer from any of these conditions but I am concerned with the products that I put on my family.  It’s a little scary to think about all the toxins and chemicals in some of the widely known baby and children’s products.

Here is a little about Skin Free from their website:

All products distributed by Blue Ridge Gypsy Studio™ are designed and formulated by owner and practicing pharmacist, Julie Hilton, who has over 30 years experience in compounding and natural skin care. “I started the Studio in 2000 when my husband and I moved to the Blue Ridge of Virginia. Our friends were calling us “gypsies”, so the name evolved naturally.”

“Working in a typical retail pharmacy setting, I was constantly frustrated when asked to recommend products for patients with difficult skin problems, especially those with fragrance allergies. I recognized a void in the market and knew that I could offer effective and affordable products to fill it. Atopic dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis are life-long conditions and need to be addressed for the long term. Patients with diabetes or renal disease, pregnant women, babies, the elderly, and patients treated with radiation therapy can all benefit from quality natural products. Even people who just have dry, sensitive skin can appreciate wholesome natural skincare products.”

Naturally occurring vegetable oils and butters contain indigenous nutrients, antioxidants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), and antibacterial agents that petroleum-based oils just don’t have. Natural oils absorb into the skin and do not feel greasy. They also come from replenishable sources, which is a great environmental concern.

I received the Skin Free Basic Four Gift Set to review. The gift set includes:

  • Super Moisture Body Balm
  • After Shower Moisture Spritz
  • One Niaouli Butter Stick
  • Bar of Extra Moisturizing Soap

The Environmental Working Group has rated the Basic Four Gift Set 0 in it’s Cosmetics Safety Database.

skin free moisturizing soapThe Extra Moisturizing Soap and Shampoo Bar is a rich, creamy lather makes your skin feel rejuvenated and fresh. We “superfat” our soap with extra virgin olive oil, which contains natural anti-inflammatory agents, anti-oxidants, and natural vitamins that aid in healing and soothing your skin. Naturally moisturizing shea and cocoa butters are added to reduce the tight, dry feeling normally experienced when using typical commercial soaps. The lack of chemical preservatives, fragrance, or colorants in this soap makes it ideal for individuals of any age, especially the very old and the very young, those with allergies, dermatitis, sensitive, or very dry skin.

I thought this soap was absolutely amazing! I love the smooth, creamy lather and the way it feels on my skin. Because it is formulated for those with skin problems there is no scent. I actually love scented products but since this product is 100% natural and 100% okay for my family to use, I can do without the fragrance! My families safety is more important to me. The bar is 3.5 ounces and retails for $3.99.

skin free naouli butter stickThe Niaouli Butter Stick is a blend of aromatic Niaouli oil with the other healing oils of Olive, Sweet Almond, Cocoa Butter and Shea in a soy base to make a convenient butter for easy application on your skin problem areas. Because some people find the aroma of Niaouli too strong, we temper it with a dash of Madagascan Vanilla.

We used the Niaouli Butter Stick on my daughters knee. She has a dry area on her knee that just showed up a couple of months ago. The pediatrician says psoriasis but I’m just not so sure. We have been using the butter stick a few times a week and it is really helping. The area was white and a little crusty, but now its just white. Aside from really helping her knee, it smells nice! It smells like a blend of vanilla and eucalyptus. The stick is one ounce and retails for $7.99.

skin free super moisture body balmThe Super Moisture Body Balm is very effective for eczema, psoriasis, cracked and dry feet, hands, elbows or wherever you need an intensive moisturizer. Use all over your body at bedtime to get rid of “alligator” skin. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and dehydration.  You can use our Super Moisture Body Balm anywhere on your body, face, or hands. You will be amazed at how wonderful this balm feels and how quickly it will improve the condition of dry or injured skin.  Pregnant moms will find regular use of our Balm will help prevent stretch marks.

All I can say is WOW! At first I wasn’t sure how I would like it because it is a really thick buttery consistency but after trying it, I love it. I’m usually not one for balms because I feel sticky and tacky afterwards but this just leaves your skin feeling rejuvenated. I will say that you can still feel it on your skin and it doesn’t immediately soak in. If you don’t like that feeling then you probably won’t like this. But, if you suffer from dry skin, you really need to try this balm.

I find that the balm has such a pleasant scent. I immediately thought of chocolate chip cookie dough when I was first applying it to my skin. You all know how I love my scented products and I love that this product is 100% safe and it has such an awesome scent. An 8 ounce bottle retails for $12.99.

skin free after shower moisture spritzAnd last but not least is the After Shower Moisture Spritz. This is an innovative use for an ancient product. We have taken our delectable bath oil and placed it in an easy to use spritz bottle. This gives you the perfect moisturizing solution for people who always take showers. Our fine mist spray bottle allows you to reach all areas of your body, even the middle of your back. Spray this light, but effective blend of oils and Vitamin E onto moist, warm skin immediately after your shower for maximum hydration. As you towel dry, the oils soak deep into your skin to leave you free from dry, itching skin all day, with no greasy feeling afterward. Our oils are selected to offer the richest content of anti-inflammatory agents, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals for your skin.

I had a problem with my spritzer (it wasn’t spritzing) and contacted Julie and she immediately sent me out a new spritzer. Julie was super nice and I give her customer service skills two thumbs up. Thanks Julie!

This is another product that I just love! I like to apply it right when I get out of the shower when I’m still wet and then use my towel to help rub it in. It feels so nice and silky on your skin and leaves your skin so soft and smooth. An 8 ounce bottle retails for $11.99.

I’m impressed with the four Skin Free products that I’ve tried but would have probably not picked it up because of the not-so-spunky packaging. I would suggest somehow changing the packaging to be more appealing and to really highlight the products. They are far from boring.
