Alvin & The Chipmunks Go To The Movies: Star Wreck and Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show Review

On September 8th, Paramount Home Entertainment released two Alvin & The Chipmunks oldies on DVD! Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies: Star Wreck and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show were both a hit in our house! We received both of these to review and I was excited to share one of my childhood favorites with my children.

Alvin & The Chipmunks Go To The Movies: Star Wreck

In Star Wreck, Alvin and the gang star in hilarious send-ups of Hollywood movies and characters: “Star Wreck” takes them into outer space aboard the S.S. Boobyprize; “Elementary, My Dear Simon” finds them on the trail of the infamous Moriarty; and “Chip Tracy” follows the only clean cop in a city awash in crime.

I remember watching Alvin & The Chipmunks when I was younger and now my children get to watch them too. Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies: Star Wreck contains 3 episodes including:

• Star Wreck
• Elementary, My Dear Simon
• Chip Tracy

As I’m sure you can guess, Star Wreck is play off of Star Trek.  I’m not into Star Trek, but I am into The Chipmunks so I was able to enjoy the episode.  I really didn’t catch on to Elementary, My Dear Simon, but I’m thinking it is a parody of Sherlocke Holmes.  And the last one, Chip Tracy, is as I’m sure you already guessed, Dick Tracy!

Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies: Star Wreck has a runtime of 66 minutes and retails for $16.99!

Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show

The Very First Alvin Show features the 1961 broadcast of the classic Chipmunk series that started it all. Transferred from 35mm film to HD, this episode has never been released on home video. The DVD also includes the musical episode “Rockin’ Through the Decades” hosted by Will Smith and featuring the Chipmunks singing hit songs such as “She Loves You”, “Satisfaction, ” “Beat It” and more, as well as the episode “A Chipmunk Reunion” in which the Chipmunks search for their long lost mother.

Since I wasn’t around when The Chipmunks debuted, it was exciting for me to watch the beginning of these little guys. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show contains three episodes including:

• The Alvin Show Episode #1
• A Chipmunk Reunion
• The Chipmunks Present Rockin’ Through The Decades

This is the first time that The Alvin Show Episode #1 has been released on DVD since its original airing in 1961.  It has been stored on the original 35 mm film and has been transferred to HD for our viewing pleasure.  A Chipmunk Reunion is all about the Chipmunks searching for their long lost mother.  It will pull at your heart strings just a little bit.   And, The Chipmunks Present Rockin’ Through The Decades is a musical episode hosted by the incredibly talented Will Smith.  The Chipmunks sing songs from some of the music industries finest including:

• Michael Jackson
• The Beatles
• The Rolling Stones

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show has a runtime of 74 minutes and retails for $16.99!

While we really enjoyed watching the Chipmunks, the quality was a little disappointing.  If you are expecting the quality you usually get today, you are expecting too much.  It reminds me of the 80′s when I was watching cartoons.  But don’t let that stop you from buying these two.  It really makes you reminisce and feel like you are watching it again in your childhood years.
