Are you constantly second guessing yourself? I know I do every single day that goes by. When I was approached for a book review of Think Confident, Be Confident I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for me to see what I could do to make my self doubt go away.
Think Confident, Be Confident was written by Dr. Leslie Sokol and Dr. Marci G. Fox. Their expertise in this field of study is widely recognized around the world. Dr. Sokol is a principal instructor at the Beck Institute of Cognitive Therapy and Research and Dr. Fox is a senior faculty member in the Institute’s training program.
Think Confident, Be Confident is a guide that is broken down into four steps to help you conquer doubt. The book offers interactive and workbook style exercises that help you identify and overcome self-limiting behavior such as self doubt.
I like that this book offers four easy steps to help people like me. The first step is to label your doubt. During this process you will take doubt tests that help you figure out what makes you most vulnerable to self doubt.
The second step is to question your doubt. You will learn how to notice these doubt messages and begin to see things more realistically and positively.
The third step is to rethink doubt. You will learn about if/then messages and how to notice them. You will complete some quizzes and exercises to help you identify your own if/then messages and then learn how you can replace them with more realistic assumptions.
The fourth and final step in the program is to take action. You will learn easy to use skills that will help you build and maintain confidence for lifelong self-esteem.
At first I thought the worksheets and quizzes were just too much work. I decided that if I was important enough to myself that I should at least give it a try. And I’m glad I did. Although a change doesn’t happen overnight, the process has started and I hope that in the near future that I will be able to think confident and be confident.
