My family likes to eat.  I mean, they really like to eat.  When a representative from Wildtree contacted me inquiring about a review of their products, I happily obliged.  I sent over a list of products I was interested in and she sent me a box full of goodies.

In 1996 Leslie Montie founded Wildtree and she has been helping families around the US prepare delicious, nutritious meals in minutes.  She sought the help of her parents and they began experimenting with new ways to prepare food. They began selling their specialty blends at local cooking fairs and they quickly gained a loyal following. Leslie began doing home parties when an excited customer approached her with the idea. Since then Wildtree has grown into a household name across the nation.

wildtree

Even though Wildtree is widely known, this is the first that I have heard of them and therefore this is my first experience using the product. If you have been reading my blog for a while then you know I’m not an expert cook. In fact, I’m quite a novice cook. If a recipe includes any technique I won’t even attempt it because I’m so unsure of my cooking ability. Having the Wildtree products, I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone and attempt new things. And I actually like it, ha!

As I was looking through the Wildtree booklet, the Garlic Knots recipe really caught my eye. After seeing that I had all the Wildtree products to try this recipe I couldn’t wait to test it out. That is until I saw the directions for the dough mix. I have no experience with dough and to be quite honest, it seems really complex. The water has to be a certain temperature, you have to cover the dough and let it sit, etc. I was really nervous about trying this recipe and put it off for a couple of weeks.

wildtree grapeseed oilI finally had an ah-ha moment and decided that I could do this. I got all the ingredients, So Quick and Easy Pizza Dough Mix, Roasted Garlic Grapeseed Oil and Scampi Blend and began my journey at making the Garlic Knots. It probably took me a lot longer than it would take somebody else, but I made sure to read and re-read the directions several times. It was actually so much easier than I thought it would be and the end result was delicious. The whole family loved the Garlic Knots, especially Peyton who ate like 7 of them.

I also received Wildtree Home Fries Seasoning for review.  We have used it several times and each time it was a success with the family.  The directions said to use it on fresh homemade french fries but I used it on frozen french fries.  I laid the frozen french fries evenly on a cookie sheet and sprinkled the Home Fries Seasoning over the them and placed them in the oven.

The french fries turned out really tasty.  The blend is low in calories, fat free, cholesterol free and is also a good source of vitamin C.  I love french fries and the Home Fries Seasoning makes them taste even better.wildtree home fries

I also received Hummus Naturally and Robust Tortilla Soup.  Wildtree carries a wide variety of healthy products for the whole family.  I really liked all the products that I have tried.  Being a frugal mommy, I do have to say that the prices seem a bit high for me.  I have never purchased specialty foods so I’m not sure if these prices are normal or not.  Although I think these prices are good for special occasions, I wouldn’t use them for every day meals here.

Wildtree offers business opportunities as well.  It only takes $99 to get started and you receive $270 in products.  While I have no desire to take on another business venture, I may take advantage of this opportunity just to get the discounted product.  That is over a 60% discount!

The Smell of the Holidays

febreze home collections logoI’ve been using the Febreze Flameless Luminary for a few months now and it is by far my favorite home fragrance product. I started out using the the Green Tea Citrus scent and now I’m using the Cranberry Pear scent.

What I really like about the Febreze Flamelss Luminary is the soft glow it adds to the room.  I also like that I can change the scent and look of the luminary just by changing the shade.febreze home collections

Febreze recently sent me a complimentary Febreze Game Day Kit that included football essentials, Febreze Fabric Refresher and personal tips from Olivia Manning.  With three children and a dog in the house, I go through Febreze Fabric Refresher like its going out of style.  I always love getting packages in the mail from Febreze.

I use Febreze Fabric Refresher on our couch, chairs, curtains and comforters.  When our dog rides in the car with us, I also spray it our floorboard.  It always makes everything smell nice and clean.

Febreze has a couple of promotions going on right now that I wanted to tell you about:

  • If you send in six used Febreze Flameless Luminary Shades, you can receive a coupon for a free two-pack refill.  Just log on to Febreze.com for more information on the Show Us Your Shades program.
  • Febreze Fanatics also have the chance to win four tickets to Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida by vising Febreze and participating in the Freshest Game Day Sweepstakes Ever.

Febreze has become my home fragrance brand of choice.  Before making your next Febreze purchase, print these coupons to save a few bucks.

Coupon Preview for 11/29/09

I like seeing the coupons that will be in the Sunday paper before I buy so that I can determine how many papers I’ll get for the week. If there is a good amount of coupons that I will use, I usually buy 5 papers. If there not many, then I’ll usually just buy a couple. You can check out Sunday Coupon Preview for a sneak peek at Sunday’s coupons.

Each week on either Thursday or Friday I’ll let you know what I think are the best coupons for that week. Coupons vary from region to region, so values may vary slightly.

Food Safety Tips for Thanksgiving

turkey

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that 80 percent of foodborne illnesses are linked to meat and poultry, so proper handling and cooking is essential. Here are seven tips to help ensure safe handling and preparation of foods this holiday season:

1. Don’t let uncooked turkey sit at room temperature. Shop for a turkey last and get it home and refrigerated promptly. Bag the turkey separately and place it below other food in the refrigerator.

2. Don’t attempt to thaw a frozen turkey quickly by leaving it sit overnight on a kitchen counter. Use one of the following methods:

  • Option I – Place a covered turkey in a shallow pan on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator.
  • Option II – Place the plastic-wrapped turkey in a pan of cold water, changing the water about every 30 minutes.
  • Option III – Completely submerge the turkey under a stream of lukewarm (70°F) running water.

3. Never place the turkey directly on the counter; keep it on a platter or in a roaster. Clean and sanitize the counter and utensils after handling raw turkey.

4. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw turkey, using plenty of warm water and soap.

5. Use a thermometer to check for doneness, even if the turkey has a pop-up timer. When the temperature reaches 165° F in the thickest part of the thigh away from the bone, the turkey should be done.

6. Wait to stuff the turkey until right before putting it in the oven. Use only pre-cooked meats and vegetables in the stuffing mixture. Cook the stuffing until it reaches at least 165° F at the center.

7. Refrigerate any leftovers immediately. Large portions should be separated into smaller containers and covered loosely to speed cooling.

Tips provided by NSF International, a not-for-profit, public health and safety organization that has been providing inspection and certification services to the food industry for over 65 years.

stonyfield farm organics

Stonyfield is now rewarding consumers for buying Stonyfield yogurt in quarts with a free reusable yogurt cup!

“When consumers buy our quarts instead of single-serving cups, they pay less for their yogurt, but we know that a quart is not as convenient as single-serving cups for on the go consumption,” says our President and CE-Yo Gary HIrshberg. “The reusable yogurt cup gives our quart buyers the convenience of the Stonyfield 6 oz cups by providing a way to create easily transportable single servings for anywhere, anytime.”

Yogurt lovers just have to buy four Stonyfield yogurt quarts through December, and mail in the foil lids, and they’ll receive the reusable, eight-ounce yogurt cup made by Preserve®. Made from 100% recycled plastic, the cup is perfect for yogurt-lovers on the go, the ideal size for breakfast or a snack, with room to stir in fruit or granola. It’s dishwasher safe, BPA-free with a screw-on lid – and it’s made in the US. Consumers will also get $4.50 worth of Stonyfield and Preserve coupons along with the cup.

Consumers can mail clean foil lids, with name, address and phone number on an index card or 4” x 6” sheet of paper by February 28, 2010 to:

Stonyfield Farm
Reusable Cup Offer
PO Box 4840
Manchester, NH 03108-4840

Cups will be shipped starting in January, 2010 with delivery in 10 to 12 weeks. This offer is good only in the US, while cup supplies last, and is limited to one cup per household.
