What My First Grader is Learning at School

abc pictureTaylor is doing very well in first grade. She is making straights A’s and boy am I one proud mommy. She loves to do her school work and really enjoys going to school.

I picked her up from school the other day, as I always do and we had an interesting conversation.  It went like this.

Me: How was your day Taylor?

Taylor: Good. We learned about words.

Me: Really? What did you learn?

Taylor: Like, if you have the word ball, if you take away the b you have another word, all.

Me: That’s right Taylor. Great job!

Taylor: I know some more.

Me: Awesome! Why don’t you tell me some.

Taylor: Okay. If you take the c off of call, then you have all again. If you take the f off of fall, it spells all too.

Me: You are absolutely right. Can you think of some other types of words that contain other words?

Taylor: If you take the g off of gas, you have as. (except is didn’t sound like as, if you know what I mean).

Yep, she said it. I sat there trying not to totally just break out in hysterics. I look over at her and the look on her face was priceless.

Taylor: Oh, I just said ___. I didn’t mean to. It was an accident.

Me: I know baby. It’s okay. But lets not say that word again.

So, what is your child learning at school?

That’s one I would write for the baby books. You know, so when she’s older you can remind her how cute and funny that moment was and she’ll be all embarrassed! My son has a hard time saying socks in spanish…it sounds like he is saying a bad word instead.

Pronounced it with the double s sound, instead of the singular one. I love how kids think all those kinds of things rhyme, but they don’t all the time.

That is just too cute! Don’t you love how it is so hard not to crack up when they say things that funny but you really aren’t supposed to laugh at it because it’s really bad. Boy, sometimes it’s really tough being a mom… Thanks for sharing.
