The Littlest Pet Shop Friends: City for Nintendo DS Review

I have a family full of gamers.  I guess they get it from daddy because I’m not much of a gamer myself but every now and then you’ll find me playing a game on my daughter’s Nintendo DS. Between my 3-year old son Rylan and my 6-year old daughter Taylor there isn’t much time for me to play anyway.  We recently received a complimentary review copy of Littlest Pet Shop Friends: Cityfor Nintendo DS and my daughter was quite excited when I showed her that she had a new game. She is a big fan of The Littlest Pet Shop and of her Nintendo DS so this was a perfect combination.

I let Taylor play the game for a while but to do a proper review, I had to play it (of course)!  When I first started playing the game I thought I had broken my daughters DS.  There is a short clip that plays on the top half of the DS and the bottom is black.  I just knew I had somehow messed it up.  After figuring out that the DS was in fact working correctly I went on playing.  The game immediately starts out with reading and the first two pets you see are the dog and the peacock.  You can play mini-games and earn Kibble Coins to use to purchase items for your pets in the boutiques. As you are walking through the city, you can also pick up ingredients to use in the bakery.

As you progress through the game, there are instructions on the top screen of your DS but there are also arrows on the bottom screen to guide you in the right direction.  You can also connect with the other pets in the game by chatting them them.  The more time you spend playing with your pet, the more cool things you earn for you pet.  As you play you also meet many more pets. It becomes one big, happy family!

This is the first Littlest Pet Shop game I have played and I actually enjoyed myself.  The graphics are a little more pixilated than some other games I have played but considering it is a children’s game I think its fine.  I do think that this game is geared for 2nd grade and beyond.  There is a lot of reading and my 1st grader gets frustrated when she doesn’t know all the words.

Thank you so much for your review. I was thinking about getting this for my kindergartner, but with the reading I may just wait a year or two.

    Thanks!
