Even though I try, I’m not great at finding ways to do things like this with my kids. But a few months ago, my neighbor was making packages to send to children in Africa and I had my sons find toys that were in good condition to give and then go buy some other needed products – like crayons and toothbrushes.

At 2 1/2 my daughter loves helping others! She has to carry the grocery bags in with us, she has to fill our glasses if they’re empty.. and to encourage her all we do is simply let her do it! Who cares if a bag splits open or the entire milk jug spills? She learns and she loves it!

My 2 & 5 yr old boys are learning that it’s good to give. We give gifts for the needy at Christmas. They love putting the money in the Salvation Army kettles. I also sew pillowcases for the kids at hospitals & they love to help me pick out the material prints at the stores. And of course all the things they outgrow (toys/clothes) go to those less fortunate. My/Our next project is a Pink Quilt for for a Breast Cancer raffle next year. They like to hand me the materials & push the buttons on the sewing maching. My 5 year old knows it’s to help others, like my best friend Kim, who passed away last year, and asks questions about her while we sew. And what a better snack than fruit snacks while we sew?
