This summer has been full of travel for me and my family. We’ve gone on weekend trips pretty much every weekend this summer. With 3 children under the age of 7 at times it can be difficult. Evenflo surveyed 1,000 parents from around the country with children under the age of 5 and here are some of the survey statistics:
- More time on the road often puts safety concerns into high gear. And it can trigger tears of frustration – in kids AND parents.
- The biggest worry parents have when taking car trips is that their young child will be harmed in a collision (76%).
- Integral to a safe ride is proper car-seat installation, but a full 65% of mothers and 72% of fathers encounter challenges when installing car seats.
- Some 48% of parents worry about keeping their child entertained while in their car seat.
- Attending to a baby while driving causes 38% of parents to miss their exit once in a while, 12% to miss their exit often and 38% to get lost.
- 34% worry that their little Houdini will wiggle out of the car seat
- 32% worry their child will have a temper tantrum
- And – oh baby! – nearly half (49%) admit that installing the car seat caused them to sweat more than actually making the baby did!
Traveling with children can be a challenge and Evenflo has created a savvy parenting microsite filled with survey statistics, funny little videos and loads of support. Check it out and see if you are a savvy parent.

I loved the “How to Recover from a Potty Mouth Moment” clip!
I learned some helpful tips about hydrating kids in the summer — for example, that soda actually dehydrates and that a lot of snacks (like cucumbers) contain enough water that they also serve to hydrate. Useful info! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Use back burners first when cooking and the front only when necessary. Turn pot handles inward, and keep appliances unplugged when not in use. Fold up or remove the kitchen stool. Tie up any cords that baby could use to topple something heavy onto herself. Keep sharp utensils, poisons, and other dangers out of reach. Heavy pantry items, if dropped from even a low shelf, can injure tiny toes, so secure them out of baby’s reach, in a high or locked cabinet. Also keep the garbage can out of reach, as well as recycling bins that hold bottles and sharp-edged cans. Because your baby will spend time on the floor, watch what you drop in the kitchen. Raw meat can make her sick, for example, and small objects, such as peanuts, are a choking hazard. Consider using place mats instead of a tablecloth, which baby might grab, pulling dishes or hot food down upon herself.
