As I’ve said many times before here on my blog, I’m not an adventurous cook or am I a very good cook. But, I do cook and my family eats it so I guess I’m not all that bad. I was recently given the opportunity to try out Nakano Rice Vinegar and I was quite happy with the results.
Along with my Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar I received a few recipes and I decided to try the Tangy Pan-Fried Potatoes. I didn’t follow the recipe exactly, in fact, I made quite a few changes to make preparation easier and save on time. You can view the original recipe on the website, but here is my recipe.
Tangy Pan-Fried Potatoes
Ingredients
- 1 can diced potatoes
- 1/2 cup frozen diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp. each ground coriander and salt
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 Tbsp. NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar Original
- 1 Tbsp. water
Directions
- Place potatoes, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander and salt in a large bowl and toss.
- Melt butter in a large skillet.
- Cook potatoes over medium to high heat 10 to 12 minutes, stirring frequently and scraping browned bits from pan.
- Add rice vinegar and water.
- Continue to cook until all liquid is evaporated and potatoes are tender, 6 to 8 minutes.
I obviously used this as a side dish, but this could easily be made into a main dish with leftover chicken, pork chops, etc.
Nakano Seasoned Vinegars are available in Original, Roasted Garlic, Basil & Oregano, Red Pepper, Pesto, Balsamic Blend and Italian Herb. For those of us who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle, Nakano Rice Vinegar is a great choice because it is all natural, low in calories, has no fat or preservatives, is gluten free and contains 50% less sodium than the competition. Here are a few ideas on how you can use Nakano Rice Vinegar to help you eat healthier:
- Use it in salads as a healthier alternative to dressing
- Use it in baked potatoes in place of sour cream & butter
- Use it in cole slaw as a fat-free replacement for mayonnaise
- Use it in rice, green beans, beets, and almost any vegetable for a light flavor accent.
The Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar added a nice little tang in your mouth that really complimented the potatoes. We all loved the potatoes which actually surprised me because my children and husband aren’t really adventurous when it comes to food. They noticed the difference, because I make a similar recipe without Nakano, but they liked it. When they like it, I consider it a success.
As with anything with vinegar in the name, the smell is a bit overpowering and the combination of vinegar, cumin and garlic left the house smelling a little ethnic. Just warn your husband before he gets home.
I’ll definitely be experimenting with some of the other recipes provided and try to keep you updated with my thoughts.
