Over the last few months, I’ve signed more contracts than I care to count. It seems like a few times a week my email dings and notifies me I have yet another contract to sign, another contract that I have to disclose personal information, another contract I have to send electronically.
Gone are the days of paper contracts and handwritten signatures. Most of the contracts I’ve been receiving are Adobe pdf’s and require digital signatures and to be perfectly honest with you, I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. While I love technology and the opportunity it provides, sometimes I feel like we are starting to depend on it to much. I understand it’s quicker, it’s easier, it’s more convenient, but what exactly are we putting at risk with all this technology?
It’s scary when you really start thinking about it. Social Security numbers, Drivers License numbers, addresses, etc., all being transmitted either through email, fax…you get my point? It’s scary to think all that information is floating around and easily accessible to those who know how to access it. It makes me miss the days of handshakes and handwritten signatures.
How do you feel about technology?

I hear you. That reminds me I was supposed to fill out a contract today. I guess I’ll be sending that out tomorrow.

I wish I had more that could be digitally signed. It’s a pain in the butt since I usually have to make a special trip to the library to print and fax (printer currently isn’t working). 🙁
Shop with Me Mama (Kim) says
I find it a hassle too, but then i think would if we had to do it the old regular way. It would take FOREVER! But, I am always late on returning my digitally signed contracts, LOL, go figure!

I thought it was the strangest thing the first time I was asked to sign one. It is super convenient to do it on line but honestly I’m not sure how I feel about it either

I’m ok with it, but I still print the whole thing out, so I don’t know if it’s really helping that much.

I hear you! I have been signing my share of contracts recently and all that information going over the web scares me a lot. Especially since my bank debit card was compromised recently and unauthorized charges were made with it online.
Barbara Platt says
scary, my bank debit card was compromised, too
Penelope says
I kind of like those digital thingies…very futuristic! I don’t have to fax anything either, so it saves me time.
Marybeth @ babygoodbuys.com says
I prefer digital signatures!
Virginia from That Bald Chick says
I like the digital signatures, but HATE when they are not sent to secure addresses.
Nichol says
I feel the same when when I sign those contracts. This is the internet and you never know with those hackers. I do like digital signatures though.
Megan says
I like digital signatures but I don’t like scanning my SSC and sending it anywhere. Or my license.
April Decheine says
I do love the digital Signatures but am leery doing a lot of things online. Identity theft is so darn scary!
Sarah Coulsey says
I agree with you. All our lives are on a computer. Technology is way more advanced then I ever could have imagined. It scares me a little!!!
Lori Z. says
This makes me want to go watch Sandra Bullock’s The Net.
Anne - Mommy Has to Work says
I need to do a little more digital.
Anne says
I like the digital signatures, it is easier than faxing stuff.
Kelly says
I feel the same way. While it’s nice to get paid, I hate to disclose so much personal information. It scares me to think what could happen if it fell into the wrong hands.
Donna says
I do have some worries and concerns filling out/signing contracts digitally, but all-in-all, I prefer doing it this way.
Marcie W. says
Technology is king these days but I still prefer the old fashion signature to that of a PDF, etc.
Brandi @ Flip Flop Mama says
While that is scary to think about all the important personal information out there, it sure does save time.
Kimberly @The Baby Sleep Site says
Contracts, signatures and giving out personal information seem to be a sign of the times. Working virtually, electronic and digital sure does help things get done faster and efficiently but then one does have to wonder how information is being safeguarded.
Dee @ Cocktails with Mom says
I like the ease of filling out and signing contracts digitally, but there is always a concern about privacy.
nicole says
I don’t have a problem w/ digital signatures, so long as they are sent to secure addresses.
kristin says
I personally appreciate the digital signature, saves printing, scanning, returning. Super simple and so much easier for someone who also receives a lot of contracts.
{Not Quite} Susie Homemaker says
It IS convenient, but it does make me nervous.
