Five Grilling Tips When Hosting a Party

It’s no secret that my husband loves to grill! And it’s also no secret that I love that my husband loves to grill! There’s just something about firing up the grill, sitting with a nice cold beverage, preferably Diet Coke, and enjoying the smell of the food cooking away on the grill.

Here are five grilling tips to remember when you are hosting a party.

Get a head count. Before you starting planning and purchasing items for your party, get a head count so that you can purchase everything that you’ll need in one stop.

Plan the menu. Now that you have a head count of your guests, now it’s time to plan the menu. As we all know, the guest of honor at these types of parties, is always the food! Figure out what you will be grilling and what side items you will be serving. To lighten the load a little, you could try asking guests to bring a side, salad or drinks.

Purchase food and supplies. Get everything you need for the party. From the food, cutlery, paper plates and cups, tablecloths and drinks, make sure you have everything you need before the day of the party. If it helps, make a list and check that you have everything you need.

Decorate, but keep it simple. My favorite decoration when planning an outdoor party is clear outdoor lights. Depending on the occasion or the season, plan your decorations accordingly. For example, if you are having a party in April or May, you can purchase clearance pastel Easter decorations that would work perfectly (just make sure it’s just pastels, no eggs). If you are having a fall party after Halloween, orange and brown decorations would be perfect for a fall themed party.

Don’t be afraid to recruit a little help from the family. If you read my husbands blog post on his love for grilling, he enlists the help of the children to help with simple tasks that helps him keep on eye on the grill. Delegate tasks that don’t require use of the grill and let the grill master make the magic happen.
