Child Hunger Can End With Your Help

While this post is part of a sponsored series with ConAgra Foods and the Child Hunger Ends Here  Campaign, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As I sit here and think about my children while they are at school getting ready for lunch, it saddens my heart to know that there are some children that won’t be eating lunch today.  One in five children in the US today suffer from food insecurity.  One in five children will have to experience pain because of hunger.  One in five children will cry out for food.  One in five children will wake up hungry and go to bed hungry.  One in five children will be too embarrassed to ask for help.  One in five children will suffer in silence.

But I won’t be silent.  I won’t sit back and do nothing when there are children in my state, my city and maybe even in my neighborhood that are suffering.  Nearly 17 million children here in the US will go unnoticed because of this invisible epidemic.  17 million.  That number is staggering.

Now in its fourth year, the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign created by ConAgra Foods, is working with top musical artists, moms, kids and employees to donate up to 3 million meals to their longstanding partner, Feeding America.

The 2013 Child Hunger Ends Here campaign is supported by young musical artists who are lending their voices to help spread awareness for child hunger. These artists include: Carly Rae Jepsen, Tori Kelly, Amber Riley, and Cody Simpson. You can download free song recordings from Amber and Cody.

With such a high number you may feel like there is nothing you can do to help.  But that is where the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign comes in. It’s hard for one person to make a difference but when we all band together for a cause such as this one, we CAN make a difference.

How You Can Help End Child Hunger

You can participate by looking for the red pushpin in grocery stores and purchasing specifically marked packages of 19 select ConAgra Foods brands.  These specially marked packages will contain an eight-digit code.  You will then need to visit the Child Hunger Ends Here Facebook page or Child Hunger Ends Here website and enter the code.  For every code entered by 8/31/13, ConAgra Foods will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America.

You can also try to help a food bank in your local area by entering your zip code.  At the end of the campaign, ten food banks in the zip codes with the highest entries will receive an additional donation of 80,000 meals.

Did you know that child hunger was so prevalent in our country?  If you have a few seconds, I’d love for you to take this survey on behalf of the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.  There is only six questions and it really does only take a few seconds.  This survey will be used to help gauge the awareness of the campaign. You will not be required to leave any personal information.

Don’t forget to look for the red pushpin as your browsing the grocery store aisles.  Each code entered from specially marked packages will help feed one in five children who would otherwise go without.

Can I count on your support? More importantly, can they count on your support?

It’s amazing that we have hungry people with all of our waste!

I’ve supported local food banks, and I tend to feel an extra push to do it around the holidays, but I should really do it more often

Hunger is a cause I am extremely passionate about and feel that no child should be hungry in a prosperous country like America! I’ll be going grocery shopping tomorrow and will start keeping an extra close eye out for those red pins.

Ending world hunger, not just child hunger, is one cause that I’m most passionate about.

This is such a wonderful program! I don’t think people realize how hunger affects even the kids in our own neighborhoods. I always keep an eye out for these products – every bit helps!
