If you missed the announcement back in August, I am a member of the very first Sony Club which is a group of 11 extremely talented women and men. As part of this partnership, we are given Sony products to try and use in hopes that we will share about our experiences.
I recently wrote about music and why it was special to me. The Sony Bluetooth Wireless Speaker is now used in my home daily and I’m absolutely loving the ability to have music playing while I’m working without it blaring from my laptop.
Another product that I’ve been using daily since I received it is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
When I first got it I wanted to try it out so I immediately went looking at all of the free game apps. Lets just say that was a mistake because there it was staring at me — Candy Crush. I had done good up until this point and had been able to avoid the Candy Crush addiction. But, I had this tablet that was all sparkly and new and I wanted to try it out, and well, I’m sure you know the story.
There are so many features that I absolutely adore about this tablet. We currently have three other tablets in our house and the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is by far the lightest and thinnest. Weighing in at only 1.09 lbs, I have yet to find a tablet lighter than this one. And it is the thinnest 10.1″ tablet you’ll find on the market measuring .27″ thin.
Upon the very first start-up, I immediately noticed the clarity and vividness of the colors on the screen. Because it is powered by Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2, it delivers a HD TV-like viewing experience. The colors are bright, sharp and quite impressive. They say that the “Xperia Tablet Z offers the widest color spectrum of any tablet anywhere with vivid, life-like details that practically burst off the screen” and I’d have to agree.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z allows you the opportunity to record memories while you are on the go. The 8MB back camera and 2MB front camera are both equipped with a sensor that allows you to take good photos, even in low light. With the PlayMemories app, you can even share them immediately on Facebook or upload them to share at a later time. I don’t use the PlayMemories app much with the tablet, but I use it all the time with the Sony NEX-5R.
Another feature of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z that I must mention is that it is water resistant in up to three feet of water for as long as 30 minutes. While I was at Sony headquarters, they demonstrated putting it in water and I have a picture to prove it.
While I wouldn’t deliberately put the tablet in water, it is good to know that if it accidentally takes a tumble into water, it will be okay. Before trying this at home, please make sure all port covers are closed.
The battery life of the tablet is good when you aren’t using it, meaning the standby time is quite impressive. However, when I’m actually using the tablet and playing Candy Crush (shhhh….don’t tell the husband), I do notice that it drains the battery quickly. I have also noticed that the battery charges quickly when it is idle, but if you are using it and trying to charge at the same time, you won’t make much progress.
You can also use the Xperia Tablet Z as a remote for your television. It will allow you to control the TV, browse the channels and change channels without interfering with what you are currently watching. If you are on Twitter, you can also tweet about the show you are currently watching. In addition, the NFC One-Touch feature lets you wirelessly transfer content to your compatible TV, smartphone or speaker with just a tap.
I’m really enjoying the Sony Xperia Tablet Z and appreciate that I don’t have to be super careful when I’m using it in the kitchen while cooking. I’ve been using it while trying new recipes and it handles the splashes and smudges like a champ.
You can purchase the Sony Xperia Tablet Z for the suggested retail price of $499.99. If you order from Sony.com, you will receive free shipping on your order.
