First Day of Second Grade

It looks like Taylor wanted to make quite an impression on her first day of school. I’m not sure how she did on the playground, but whatever she did…I bet she looked stunning!
My Daughter Can Speak Spanish
July 12, 2010 | Filed Under Taylor | 3 Comments
Today as I was driving to work I was listening to my children talk in the back seat. Taylor has learned some spanish words from watching Dora and she was teaching them to one of her brothers. Here is how the conversation went.
Taylor: I can say red in spanish Rylan. When you say red in spanish, you say rojo.
Rylan: {just looks at her}
Taylor: And if you want to say okay in spanish, you say o-keh.
At this point, I’m totally cracking up and trying not to let them see me because I wanted to see what other spanish words she knew. Unfortunately I didn’t do a very good job so those are the only two Rylan was taught today. I’ll be sure to let y’all know if she gives any other spanish lessons.
It’s so hard to believe that my little girl just turned seven years old. As much as I don’t want to believe it, there is really nothing I can do about it. In honor of Taylor’s birthday, she received one of Just Jen’s adorable birthday t-shirts customized just the way she wanted it. Taylor loves sparkles, tiaras and pink, so this shirt totally made her day.
As if you couldn’t tell, she absolutely loves her shirt. If you know Taylor, then you know this shirt is totally her from the pink color of the shirt, to the magenta rhinestones, to the princess tiara! The sparkling Swarovski crystals are really what make this shirt. If you have a girly-girl of your own, then you know just how important sparkles can be.
I’m really impressed with the quality and workmanship of Taylor’s Just Jen shirt. The crystals all look like they are placed perfectly on the shirt. But what I think is truly unique with Just Jen is you can customize the shirt how you want it. From the style of the shirt, to the color of the shirt, to the customization on the front, to the color of the crystals, it’s all up to you and the way you want it.
The shirt itself is 100% cotton and made in the USA. I do think the sizes run somewhat on the smaller side because Taylor usually wears a size 7 in other brands but the size 8 she received from Just Jen fits perfectly. I would definitely purchase a size bigger than normal just to be safe. The shirt is nice and soft for delicate, young skin! The only downside is you do have to wash with special care because of the crystals. I would suggest to wash inside out on a delicate cycle and then lay flat to dry.

You can purchase this shirt or many other varieties by visiting the Just Jen website. The shirt pictured above retails for $33.90.

This is a picture from the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at Disney a couple of weeks ago! Taylor loved meeting Minnie Mouse! I’m sure I’ll be posting more Disney pictures for Wordless Wednesday because I have tons to share.

A Funny From My First Grader

I’m not sure who invented the Blu-Ray and why they decided to spell it the way they did but my first grade daughter has noticed the incorrect spelling.
We bought a new Sony Blu-Ray Player on Black Friday so we have the box sitting in our livingroom. My daughter is learning to read so she reads everything. Along with reading she is learning how to spell. So after she reads a word, she spells it. I think this helps her to memorize it.
As she was spelling Blu-Ray she looks at me with this weird face and says, “A child must of written this. Blue is spelled B-L-U-E.” As you can imagine, I laughed hysterically. This kid is always saying some of the funniest things.
What are some of the funny things your children have said lately?
I’m Your Mother, Not Your Maid
November 16, 2009 | Filed Under Taylor | 26 Comments
The other day I was trying to pick up things around the house and I told my 6-year old daughter that she needed to pick up her toys and some random things that belonged in her room. She gave me a snotty look so I kindly informed her that I was her mother and not her maid. She quickly replied, “You are our maid”. I guess she was talking for her brothers too!
At first I was quite upset but it really made me think about the whole situation and why she would think that I was her maid. After thinking long and hard about her statement I have come to the conclusion that I obviously don’t make her do enough around the house. I have decided that she will have chores and that I will no longer be her maid.
If you have children that are around the same age as Taylor, what are some chores that you have them do around the house? At what age did you implement chores, etc? I would love any tips and suggestions that you can offer.
What My First Grader is Learning at School

Taylor is doing very well in first grade. She is making straights A’s and boy am I one proud mommy. She loves to do her school work and really enjoys going to school.
I picked her up from school the other day, as I always do and we had an interesting conversation. It went like this.
Me: How was your day Taylor?
Taylor: Good. We learned about words.
Me: Really? What did you learn?
Taylor: Like, if you have the word ball, if you take away the b you have another word, all.
Me: That’s right Taylor. Great job!
Taylor: I know some more.
Me: Awesome! Why don’t you tell me some.
Taylor: Okay. If you take the c off of call, then you have all again. If you take the f off of fall, it spells all too.
Me: You are absolutely right. Can you think of some other types of words that contain other words?
Taylor: If you take the g off of gas, you have as. (except is didn’t sound like as, if you know what I mean).
Yep, she said it. I sat there trying not to totally just break out in hysterics. I look over at her and the look on her face was priceless.
Taylor: Oh, I just said ___. I didn’t mean to. It was an accident.
Me: I know baby. It’s okay. But lets not say that word again.
So, what is your child learning at school?
My baby is a first grader!

Summer vacation is over and I’m one less child at home during the day. My first little baby, 8 lbs 4oz and 21″ long, is now in first grade. She is growing up so quickly into a beautiful, intelligent little girl. It is amazing how fast they grow up!

Taylor has enjoyed her first week of first grade. She has a couple of her friends from kindergarten in her class, so she is more comfortable and open, rather than shy and reserved (like her mommy). She got all my bad qualities, poor little girl.
Every day this little girl amazes me with her wit and smarts and also with her totally grown-up attitude. She is the most style-conscience 6 year old that I know! She totally has a taste for style and I fear for my checkbook.
But there is nothing this little girl could do that could ever make me stop loving her! She is beautiful, smart, funny, hot tempered, full of attitude, and she is mine! My sweet little girl. I love you Taylor!
