SONIC Review and Gift Card Giveaway (Closed)

We have a SONIC really close to our house but we rarely go there.  I’m not sure why, but most of our fast food dining is done elsewhere.  However, we were sent a gift card to go and check out the unique brand experience of Sonic and to check out all the new healthy menu items and kids meals.

We decided since it wasn’t too terribly hot that we would eat outside at SONIC where they have a couple of tables for diners who don’t want to drive thru or eat in their cars.  The children thought this was pretty cool because we usually don’t do that.  We ordered our food and the gift card covered all of it with a couple dollars to spare.  {I’ll have to sneak a quick trip to Sonic to get a yummy snack for myself.}

My husband ordered a burger combo, I ordered the popcorn chicken combo, my daughter ordered a grilled cheese wacky pack meal with apple slices and chocolate milk and my son ordered the chicken strips wacky pack meal with apple slices and chocolate milk.  The carhop that delivered the food to our table was nice and friendly with a huge smile on her face.  She even came back about halfway into our meal to ask if we needed anything.  I though that was very thoughtful and kind.

For many years, SONIC’s Wacky Pack meals have included mom-approved, car-friendly foods as well as educational toys that promote playing, learning and parent/child interaction.

Did you know that SONIC’s Wacky Pack meals meet a number of USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and recommendations for children’s nutrition?  SONIC recommends children get a Wacky Pack meal that consists of two all white meat chicken strips, apple slices with fat-free caramel dipping sauce and one percent low-fat milk.  This combination provides your child protein, calcium and fruit.  If your child would rather have french fries instead, it’s okay.  A WebMD nutritionist has identified that SONIC’s french fries are the most healthy among fast-food chains.

Some more exciting news for the young ones is that SONIC is offering a new Wacky Pack toy each month.  This months toy is the Atomic Straws and my children have already used theirs to drink their chocolate milk.  The toy is August in Smart-a-Gon and in September the toy will be a Hero Force collectible.

We noticed while we were there that SONIC is upgrading the drinks with any combo to a Route 44 free of charge.  I’m not sure how long this promotion is going on so hurry up and check it out!

    For a quick healthy meal, I make tofu stir fry. Just cut up some tofu, add a bag of stir fry veggies and some soy sauce and it’s a meal. sometimes I make some rice with it too.

    This is really neat. My husband and I just the other day (Thursday)went to the new Sonic that just opened on Wednesday in Belvidere, Illinois. We live in Machesney Park. We heard a while back that one was going to be built. You would not believe the line that we had to wait in just to pull into their parking lot to park in a stall. It was at least a 35 minute wait, so we waited. When we lived in Arkansas several years back for a very short period of time, we ate at Sonic’s a lot, so it has been that long since we have been to a Sonic’s. The manager there said they are building another one in Loves Park next year, even close.Thank you

    Feeding my Daycare kiddos is easy because they are all good well rounded eaters.. Summer makes it a breeze with all of the fresh fruits and veggies readily available.

    Our favorite good for you food is pizza. We load it down with real tomato slices, broccoli, and whatever other veggies we have on hand and top with cheese. Pizza can be really healthy this way and like everything moderation is key.

    My daughter’s favorite dinner is fairly healthy: we call it beans & rice & kielbasa. (okay..so kielbasa isn’t the healthiest). But it’s basically a black bean soup with medallions of kielbasa baked in it. I make it in a clay pot and put it on top of rice.

    Another quick easy food my son likes is a slice of bread, that I cut in a circle with a cookies cutter, spread peanut butter on it an let my son decorate it with things like raisins, apple slices, Cheerios, Rice Crispies, etc.

    Ok, one of the Daycare kids favorite snack foods anytime of the year is… A Bowl of Cereal.. They love Cheerios of any flavor, and also Rice Krispies.. but they will eat about any kind… even granola.. yummy! This is a great afterschool snack because those big kids are super hungry when they get home.

    I babysit my nephews and we always do healthy snacks (mom is VERY health conscious!) A big favorite is apple slices with cheddar cheese.
