Ty Simpkins isn’t new to the movie making industry as he’s been appearing on television screens since he was just three weeks old. He’s got quite the resume in his 11 year history and has worked with many A list actors and directors over the years. He thinks “it’s awesome” to be working with his favorite hero, Iron Man.
During a recent interview with Simpkins before the premiere of Iron Man 3, he talked about having always been a fan of Marvel, his love for Iron Man and how it was to actually work with him.
Simpkins plays Harley Keener and he describes his character as, “I’m similar to him (Tony Stark), because I’m a genius in the movie. And he’s a genius in the movie, of course, more of a genius than my character.”
When asked how it felt to be working with the likes of Robert Downey, Jr., he said “it’s awesome.” And I have to agree Ty…I think it would be pretty awesome to work with such an incredible actor.
I’m always so intrigued with child actors and it’s always interesting to hear about how they got started in the industry. Interestingly enough, Ty was an a child actor before he was even born. “I was still in my mom’s stomach when the people called and asked me to be on this soap opera”, Simpkins said during the interview. “They asked my mom. And she said I’m not born yet and then they said we’ll wait.” Sounds like he was a hot commodity from the beginning.
I’m pretty sure we all know that while making a movie can be fun, there are also some challenges along the way. When asked about those challenges when filming Iron Man 3, Simpkins let us know that the line “retro-reflection panels” got annoying difficult to say “but then once the day was over I knew how to say it.”
When Ty isn’t making movies, he enjoys baseball, fencing and making LEGO stop motion movies.
When asked what was next for him, he let us know that he finished filming Insidious 2 which comes out in September. “And I’m really excited for this movie called Conversations with Andy. It’s about a sixth grade kid who is having a tough time with his family. Like they’re getting a divorce and stuff. And then he meets Andy Warhol. And it– Andy helps him out and stuff. So I’m really excited for that.” It sounds like Ty is a busy little boy with such a bright future.
To see Ty Simpkins in his role as Harley Keener, make sure you head to the theater to watch Iron Man 3. You can also find all the latest information on the Iron Man Facebook page and you can follow them on Twitter @Iron_Man.
