In an age where everything is right at our fingertips with portable electronic devices, I enjoy being able to sit down with my children and watch them use their imaginations and watch their creativity in motion. The art of imaginative play is slowing slipping away from us and if we are not careful, those little electronic devices that we love so much will begin to consume us.
This is a partnered post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Since of all my children have an iPad Mini, I have to be deliberate about restricting activities and time spent on their devices. With the world right in their hands, part of my job as their mom is to try and keep them innocent for as long as possible. Sometimes that is hard to do with constant access to the internet.
But traditional play hasn’t completely gone away. Over the last two years Kix has been rallying to fuel kids’ imaginations and inspire their creativity. They’ve done this by providing crafts, science projects and activities that parents can share with their kids on their website and Facebook page. But now they’ve taken this creativity to their cereal boxes and bring new purpose to the humble cardboard box.
This fall, exclusively at Target stores, you’ll be able to find the new Kix cereal boxes in the cereal aisle. With punch-out building pieces that kids can use to make a variety of characters, the packaging itself can become a toy to inspire creativity.
But the fun doesn’t stop there.
The characters that can be built through the pieces on the box come to life through online storybooks called Kix Adventures. Each story takes kids on an adventure that inspires learning, imagination and play.
As a parent who sometimes is lacking in the creativity department, I find it incredibly helpful when there are projects and activities like this that can be bought and utilized easily. Since the cereal box is all you need, along with a device to access the internet (computer, phone, tablet), you have more time to focus on your kids and the activity, rather than the supplies and the instruction list.
My children enjoyed following along and using the pieces from the cereal box to create the characters to accompany the story. After they followed along with the story, they created their own characters and used them in a fun cardboard character battle.
My favorite part of watching them is being able to see those little wheels turning in their heads and watching their imagination come to life in their responses and reactions to the stories. They love being able to utilize their iPad to add another aspect of excitement to the cereal box characters.
The more boxes you buy, the more pieces you have, the bigger characters you can create. Let their imaginations soar and see what characters they can create with all their pieces.
What do you think about these new cereal boxes from Kix?

Kix is one of the few “non sugary” cereals that my son actually likes. I was surprised when I brought this home for the first time and he said it was one of his favorites. Was soooo happy to hear it.

Besides the pop-outs being cute I really like the color of the box for some reason. It made me smile vs the regular box. But add in a little creative play time reusing the box is always a plus.

That has to be the most fun cereal box I have ever seen. I love that the pieces pop out, instead of having to use scissors. Very kid friendly!

It makes me remember what I loved about cereal as a child — the toys. This kinda brings it back but in a modern way.

Oh wow! Kix was my favorite cereal as a kid, and I LOVE the new box! I always had the box right in front of me to read every time I had a bowl of cereal.

I loved Kix as a kid and am so glad it’s still around for my kiddos! I just picked up a box for Gidget but we don’t have the Very Berry flavor at our usual store. I’m going to have to check out the other stores because I know she’d get a kick out of the new box and the cut-outs!

I love this new box. Kix is one of our kids favorite cereals. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to find the Berry one by us – whenever we do find it, we stock up!

This is such a great idea! I know we always were excited just for the games on the back of the boxes, but after you did those there was nothing left. These let kids have hours of enjoyment. Boxes are always the best for imaginative play aren’t they?! 🙂

I used to love reading the cereal box every morning as a kid. This interactive box definitely harnesses that old school appreciation while adding a touch of technology. FUN!
