This is a partnered post with Mirum Shopper. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I hope you love this DIY gift bag from wrapping paper as much as I do!
Have an odd-shaped item that needs wrapping but don’t have a gift bag handy? Make your own DIY gift bag from wrapping paper using this easy to follow tutorial.
I always save scraps of wrapping paper because I never know when I’ll need to wrap something. I have small sheets saved, I have big sheets saved, and I have itty bitty sheets saved. One of the bigger sheets came in handy to create this DIY gift bag from wrapping paper. I love being able to make my own gift bags by using items I have at home, rather than making an extra trip out to buy one.
How to Make a DIY Gift Bag from Wrapping Paper
Materials
- Scissors
- Wrapping paper
- Tape
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon / Tulle
Instructions
Roll out wrapping paper and place the item that you want wrapped on top of it. You want to make sure that you have enough wrapping paper to completely cover the item(s). Carefully cut wrapping paper to size.
Put the wrapping paper face down on a flat surface. Fold the sides in until they meet in the middle of the wrapping paper. You want the paper to overlap some. Generously apply tape to the seam.
Fold one end of the wrapping paper to begin creating the bottom of the DIY gift bag.
Separate the wrapping paper where the two non-printed sides meet and flatten the corners to create a rectangular gem-like shape. {Please note: the shape at the bottom will depend on the size paper you use. Sometimes it’s diamond-shaped, sometimes it looks like below.}
Fold the top and bottom in toward the middle and apply a generous amount of tape to secure the bottom of the bag.
Open the gift bag and carefully place your item inside of it.
Fold the top portion of the bag over until it meets the back side and use a little tape to seal. Use a hole punch to carefully punch holes in the bag for ribbon of your choosing. If using thick ribbon, you may need to punch two holes, one on top of the other to make a larger opening.
Carefully thread the ribbon, tulle, or whatever you’ve chosen through the holes and tie. If you’d like, you could also attach a gift tag.
Creating a DIY gift bag from wrapping paper is super simple and makes wrapping those odd-shaped items so much easier. Think balls for sports, odd-shaped boxes, etc. Being able to make a DIY gift bag from wrapping paper makes wrapping less of a chore.
Y’all, I’m having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that Christmas is just around the corner. I mean, I know what the calendar says, but how in the world is 2016 almost over?
My kids are a year older — heck, I’m a year older. [insert eye roll here]
But it seems like now more than ever, I’m just always so busy. Between working from home, trying to juggle a family, homeschooling two of my three kids, maintaining a home, the list could go on and on really, my time is short and I know this. Therefore I find it so important to value each and every second of each and every day.
In times past, shopping for personal care products had been a multi-shop process, especially because I have to buy for so many people. From picking up hair products at one place, then body wash at another and finally deodorant at another, I was wasting time, money, and putting unnecessary miles on my vehicle.
With the crazy holiday season already in full swing, where running around is already an everyday thing, I made it easier on myself and stocked up on personal care products while crossing items off the grocery list, all at Sam’s Club.
Take a turn down the personal care aisle at Sam’s Club and you’ll find shelves of various Dove hair, skin and deodorant products that you may already know and love, priced just right.
As my children have gotten older, Santa has done a great job of bringing them personal hygiene products at Christmas to help them look and feel their best throughout the year. I bet he shops at Sam’s Club, too! {wink}
Here are just a few of the many Dove products you’ll find:
Dove Deo Cool Essentials 4pk + mini
•Most advanced care ever
•Unique 1/4 moisturizer to care for your skin
•Softer, smoother underarms in just 3 days
Dove 3 x 24 oz. Deep Moisture Body Wash
•Superior natural nourishment for your skin
•Absorbs deep within your skin
•Soothes and nourishes
Dove Cool Moisture Bar 14 ct
•Light, fresh-scented formula
•Leaves skin feeling fresh
•1/4 fresh hydrating lotion
Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner
•Beautiful hair begins with protection and repair
•MICROMOISTURE serum nourishes dry, rough hair
•Damage-care and repair system
I love the value in buying our Dove products in bulk from Sam’s Club. Not only does it save me from making emergency trips to the store because someone ran out, it saves me in the long run. I’m buying products that work for my entire family and supporting a brand that helps to empower women. And with a teen daughter at home, that’s so important to me.
You can learn more about Dove products at samsclub.com. Next time you’re in Sam’s Club, take a stroll down the personal care aisles and stock up on Dove products for the whole family. I think you’ll love not worrying about who has run out of what since you’ll have extras.
While a DIY gift bag from wrapping paper won’t quite hold up as well as a traditional store-bought gift bag, it definitely works when you’re in a pinch. If you’re wrapping a heavy item, make sure to pick up the package from the bottom rather than from the top to prevent it from tearing or ripping.

I love this idea because:
A: I don’t actually have any gift bags.
