My children love to be read to and now that my oldest child is in first grade and reading really well on her own, she has started to read to her little brothers. I was recently contacted by Joy Berry Enterprises to see if I would be willing to do a review of some Joy Berry’s books. Knowing how much my children love reading and being read to, I couldn’t turn it down.
My 3 year old son has been potty trained for quite a few months but has recently started forgetting to go to the potty. I think it might have something to do with his younger brother still wearing diapers. The Do-It-Yourself Potty Training Kit for Big Boys includes instructions, some helpful hints, Teach Me About Potty Training book, CD, progress chart, progress stickers, diploma and a sound button.
Teach Me About Potty Training introduces your little ones the potty. It teaches them that everybody goes “peepee” and “poopoo” and its not good to go in your pants. It doesn’t feel good and nobody likes it. There are restrooms almost everywhere you go and if you need to go potty, you should head to the restroom. One of the things that used to scare my children was the sound of the toilet flushing. Once they realized that is was harmless, as the book mentions, they were fine.
The progress charts and progress stickers are a great way to get the little guys motivated. Rylan loves stickers and likes being able to put them on his chart. Once they have the chart completed and filled with stickers you can award your child with the diploma. I would recommend making it a big deal with a little celebration!
The other books that we received are more geared for children ages 5-7 which is perfect for my 6 year old daughter. I think she is having a bit of difficulty being the oldest and being the only girl with two younger brothers. The Help Me Be Good series includes many important topics that sometimes we just don’t know how to handle.
I received three books from the Help Me Be Good series, Being Messy, Fighting and Whining and my daughter does her fair share of each of these. Each book also comes with a read-along CD and teaches why the action is unacceptable and what you can do to alleviate the problem.
