I’m not sure what the deal is with kids and technology, but my little seven year old daughter has been asking for a MP3 player probably close to a year now. I still think she is kinda young for one, but my husband and I agreed to get her one for Christmas this year anyway. I was super excited to hear that I was going to get the SanDisk Sansa Fuze+ for review just in time! We’ve had to be super secretive while using the Fuze+ so she doesn’t see it.
SanDisk Sansa Fuze+
As soon as we received it in the mail, my husband was super jealous of the VH1 Classic slotRadio card that came with it that features hundreds of rock and pop artists from the 70s, 80s and 90s including U2, Elton John, Whitney Houston, David Bowie and Bon Jovi just to name a few. I don’t think my daughter will be too excited about it because she’d rather be listening to Taylor Swift and Big Time Rush. Each SanDisk slotRadio card includes up to 1,000 songs featuring artists from the Billboard charts. The songs are preloaded onto a teeny tiny card with playlists that include hundreds of artists. Simply insert a slotRadio card into the Fuze+ and enjoy good music in an instant.
One of the reasons I wasn’t in a hurry to buy her a MP3 player is because I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on one. The Sansa Fuze+ is an affordable solution for entertainment on the go. While I don’t think the Fuze+ was designed and marketed for children, I think it will be great for my young daughter. It features a large LCD screen, a built-in microphone, and a recordable FM radio with 40 preset stations. And like I mentioned earlier, you can also use slotRadio cards, which come loaded with up to 1,000 songs in genres ranging from Christmas to country to oldies.
As you can see from the images, the Fuze+ has a simple, sleek design, and it’s very user friendly. We have the 4GB player and it can hold about 1,000 songs. Since this is for my seven year old daughter, it will work perfectly. If you need an endless supply of music available at your fingertips, I’d suggest going with the 16GB Fuze+. You can add a blank microSD card to expand your music library or like mentioned above, get an optional slotRadio card for an instant library of songs. Unlike other popular MP3 players, it does have a digital FM tuner and even has recording capabilities.
The touchpad makes this pocket-sized MP3 player super simple to navigate with menus that are organized by music, video, photo, radio, podcast, voice recording, slotRadio and settings.
We are pleased with our experience with the Fuze+ and hope that on Christmas morning that our daughter will be just as pleased.
Buy:
You can purchase the SanDisk Sansa Fuze+ 4 GB MP3 Player for a suggested retail price of $79.99, but right now you can get it for about $60 on Amazon.com.

I got the slot radio for my sister as she doesn’t have a computer and can’t upload music so I thought this was perfect….she loves it! It’s a great player I feel for the younger crowd and for parents who don’t want to spend a lot of money. Great review!

Okay great to know! I need a “real” MP3 because all I have is a Shuffle, which is great but I need something with more abilities.

I can’t believe your 7-year-old (then 6-) has been asking for a mp3 player. My DD didn’t even know what a cassette tape was. Man, we’re getting old. Glad you were able to find such an affordable one-thanks for the info.

I have one of these too (a red one) and LOVE it. I like the cards that you can buy that are preloaded since buying MP3s individually can be costly. This is definitely a great gift idea for this year.

Thiis is so cool. I am sooo jealous of the slot card and the preloaded 80s music! That would be a big plus for me.

This is so cool! I know what you mean about kids and technology – my 2-year-old is crazy about music and I know it’ll only be a matter of time before she’s asking for something like this, lol. In the meantime, this looks like a great gift idea for my niece! Thanks for the review!

This sounds like a very affordable and attractive alternative to the more expensive iPod, and I love that you can save even more by buying the pre-loaded cards instead of paying a fortune for mp3s on iTunes. Thanks for sharing the review — this would make a great first mp3 player for the kids!

i love this! i use my sons ematic..
would love my own! oneplace has free mp3 sermons and i like listening to chuck missler at night in bed, the ematic is kinda cheesy and you can’t shuffle or set the order so i am constanlty having to reset so i am not listening to part 1,4,2,6 etc.
