One of the things I probably left out of my introduction is the fact that I am a total bookworm. Maybe my mother read to me while I was in utero, because I can remember reading books for as long as I have known how. In the summers, I would lay around the house all day and read an entire book in a day. Today, I have to force myself to put a book down once I start, especially once I get wrapped up in it. Since I am now a “responsible adult,” aka Stay At Home Mommy, I have to limit myself when it comes to books. Otherwise I would never get anything done! I am terrible when it comes to reading – the house and chores get totally ignored!
Because of this great love for reading, I was happy to oblige when offered a copy of Deep Down True by Juliette Fay. I am not a very picky reader; I like most anything as long as it isn’t too vulgar or scary. Deep Down True is neither vulgar nor scary. It’s a story of a recently divorced forty-something single mom of two children, Dana Stellgarten. She has always been the “nice girl,” but when faced with the challenges of becoming a “single mom,” she finds that even nice girls have a limit. She has been the stay at home mommy for years, and a year after her divorce is thrust into the work place, dating, and dealing with some pretty serious problems with her children. It was a little slow moving at first, but once I got acquainted with the characters, I found I could relate to some of the mommy issues Dana faced. There were parts of the book that made me laugh out loud, and other parts caused me to shed a few tears. It’s a story about life and family, and things we face as we journey through.
Dana’s 12 year old daughter faces middle school trauma from the unbelievably clannish girls in her school and becomes bulimic. Dana responds the way we probably all would: denial at first. Then she blames herself, and finally she is able to constructively deal with the problem. Dana’s seven year old son becomes moody and grumpy because of his absent father. And with much hilarity, Dana begins dating again. Her son’s football coach takes her out a few times, and his character caused me to nod my head in disbelief at his crazy antics and behavior.
In the end, Dana finds herself stronger, her family healing, and amazingly, she even finds love. I read this book in two days! It was a great read from start to finish. I have left out alot of the characters, so you will just have to read it yourself once it becomes available on January 25.

With winter in full swing, I am finding myself hungry for books again. I have gone through 3 good sized books in a week. This one sounds like a good one, and I think my high schooler would like it too!
