At the beginning of a new year we all make resolutions that we know we aren’t going to keep. This year, I didn’t make any resolutions because the fear of failing again was just more than I could handle. So instead of a resolution, I have just been implementing more fresh fruits and vegetables in my families diet and we’ve been more active using the Xbox 360 with Kinect.
I don’t have room in our house for exercise equipment, so being able to use something that I already own and doesn’t take up space is a huge plus! Your Shape Fitness Evolved is a fitness game that actually puts your body inside the game for the ultimate workout experience right in your very own home. My absolute favorite part of this game is I don’t have to have a remote. My body is the remote!
I’m the one on the right that looks like I’m being arrested or something. (haha) My trainer is on the left and she is pretty hardcore! My first workout had me sore for several days…seriously. I felt like I was way out of shape and it’s probably because I am. I’ve let life take over and put myself way down on the “to-do” list. You can choose a male trainer if you’d like, but for some reason I feel less intimidated by the female trainer.
When you first begin using Your Shape Fitness Evolved, the system will scan your body measuring your legs, shoulders, etc. so that the trainer knows how well you are performing the exercises. If you aren’t doing your squats properly, the trainer will be quick to call you out. I know, from experience. Both my husband and I were quite impressed with how well it actually sees and measures your body. I’m looking forward to being littler so I don’t look so frumpy on the screen.
The game tailors a workout program that caters to your fitness level. My husband started out at a higher level than I did which to be honest, I’m quite thankful. The beginner program is kicking my butt. You can choose how you want to play and I love having the options to workout how I want. Most days I use the personal trainer because her thin physique keeps me inspired but there are also classes such as boxing and yoga if you’d rather take that route. Like I mentioned, it’s totally up to you how you want to play. Sometimes I’ll get my heart rate up with a boxing class and then finish with my trainer. Just do what works for you! Whatever you do, you’ll burn calories and improve your fitness level.
Your Shape Fitness Evolved features games from Men’s Health Magazine and Women’s Health Magazine. For men, it includes programs like “The Sleeve-Busting Arms Workout” and “The Ultimate Men’s Health Fat Loss Workout” and for women it includes “The Perfect Legs and Butt Workout”, “The Toned Arms and Shoulder Workout” and “The Skinny Jeans Workout”. Each of the programs are designed so that you can incorporate free weights into each of the programs. I’d start out with a 5 lb. weight and work your way up.
The technology behind this game is advanced and quite impressive. It is able to detect when any part of your body is out of alignment. Your trainer will guide you on how to correct your form and will insure that while your working out your body has perfect form.
As you exercise and play the game, it keeps track of stats such as calories burned and scores on your workouts. Your stats are then uploaded online so that you can share them with friends and family through social networks like Facebook and Twitter. If your friends and family also have Your Shape Fitness Evolved, you can create challenges and help each other with your goals.
I’m pretty impressed with this fitness game. I’ve tried many and this is by far my favorite. I love not having to use a remote so that my hands are free and I can intensify my workout by using free weights. I’ve lost a couple of pounds, but I’ve seen more of a difference in the way my clothes fit and that makes me one happy mommy!

My son left his Wii here and I’m SO tempted to buy an exercise program for it, but I figure the minute I do he’ll come and get it. I’m thinking maybe mom needs a Wii or Xbox 360? 🙂

And I thought Kinnect was only for my son. I will be doing this when he is at school

We don’t have an Xbox is it available for the PS3 (I suppose I’d have to buy the Move for that to use it then!)

We have a Wii so I haven’t looked into this game… I’ve been considering getting a new gaming platform, though.. I’ll have to keep this in mind!
