Before I was a blogger, I owned an online store that specialized in luxury dog products. I’ve since moved on because I simply didn’t have the time the site needed and I had to make a choice.
I chose my blog.
But, I’m so thankful that I had the experience from the online store because it taught me so much about SEO and how important it is to have a landing page design that is easy on the eyes and easy to navigate. While my blog is totally different from the store because I’m not worried about the conversion rate, but rather how I’m engaging my readers and if I’m providing valuable content.
While I don’t think there is a one size fits all type solution for success online, I do think there are things you can do that will help. For me and my blog, I try to make sure everything is properly SEO’d and that I engage the readers who come to my site. Each person wants something different and for me, this is what works.
If you are a blogger or a website owner, what do you consider success from your website?
Tara says
As a new blogger, I consider it a success if people are just reading and enjoying my blog. Its awesome when people I know will come up to me and say, “I love your blog!” but its even more cool when people I DON’T know are reading it on a daily basis.

I agree with Tara, my reader numbers are very encouraging at this point. While I’m trying to look to other bigger goals like monetizing, I haven’t gotten there yet
Sara@MommaFindings says
I consider success when I’m able to stream variable monetization methods easily, but not directly effect my readers opinion of my site. Nobody LIKES seeing ad after ad after ad, so I try to tell a story with each paid post, with each sponsored campaign, with every way possible to keep Momma Findings personable.
I see success when my readers engage with me through Social Media Channels and on the blog. 🙂
Annie @ Mama Dweeb says
I am more about conversation on my blog. If I can get a really great convo going with lots of different points of view I consider it a huge success! Oh and if other site view what I said as credible enough to link to me, I am honored and that is a success to me too.
Katie says
Ditto Annie – while it’s awesome to make some money (which I have), I consider readership the most rewarding. My uniques continue to go up each month and that, to me, is success.

I haven’t been able to define success for my blog really. I am content with it though and I think contentment is part of success. I’d love to see it be more, both in stats and offers, but I am truly just blown away with the opportunities I’ve had and am just taking the time to enjoy them instead of getting to wrapped up in what I haven’t gotten.

I’m not even sure what I want out of my blog yet so I can’t quantify its success yet. Some days I want to continue doing this, sometimes I really just don’t. Do you have that???
Louise says
I think that engagement with your readers no matter what size your audience is the best way to show that people are reading you and you make a difference. Looks like you’ve been finding paid gigs a little more often that’s great. I was thinking of using Social Spark a little more than I have been. I have been having fun though!
Penelope says
Making money is success for me 🙂 Or will be when it happens.
Cathy says
I feel success if I’m happy with what I post. That’s pretty much it.

Is There a Secret to Online Success? Well, that depends on what your definition of success is. Some individuals open an online estore/website/blog as a way to generate income and stay at home, while others do so as an informative hobby. The success is simply want you are satisfied and happy with.
Although, I love the thought of being paid while I stay at home, for me personally, the secret to online success is efficiently keeping my readers well informed on issues that matter to them and allowing them to suggest feedback. Getting paid for what I love to do is simply a bonus.
