As a mommy, there is nothing worse than having a sick child and not being able to make them feel better. I don’t look forward to those nights when one of my children quietly walks into my room and whispers that they don’t feel good. Nine times out of ten, they are running a fever and that means a rough couple of days for all of us.
We recently received the Safety 1st ProGrade TriScan Thermometer and I’ve already had to put it to use thanks to the school system and carts at Walmart.
The Tri-Scan Thermometer serves multiple purposes as it can be used to read the temperature of bath water and food in addition to a thermometers normal function. It’s ergonomic shape fits into your hand easily and allows you to get a comfortable grip in case you have a child who is being uncooperative. {Not that my children are uncooperative or anything.} The one second reading is also a huge plus because as we all know, sick children are unpredictable and being able to get a reading in one second is good.
The thermometer features a 12 memory recall for temperature and time and if your child is running a fever, there is a button on the front of the thermometer that will light up red. Included on the thermometer is a temperature guide that lets you know at what temperature your child has a fever as well as when food or bath water is too hot.
The display is large and is easy to read with the temperature and time. If you or your child is running a fever, a red circle will illuminate around the on/off button. The thermometer also features a “Clean Me” alert which lets you know that you need to clean the tip of the thermometer.
I like that I can get a temperature reading in just one second and that I don’t have to fight with my children with an oral or underarm reading. When I get them still enough, I can gently place the thermometer in their ear and quickly get the results. I did find that I could get multiple readings within a very short time period, although they were all fairly close. I took multiple readings and they were all different, yet all within the degree range. It comes with the 2 required “AAA” batteries and so far I haven’t had to replace them and I’ve had the thermometer for about a month. I really like this thermometer and I’m glad I have it in my medicine cabinet.

Great review Crystal! Does the screen light up to take temp. at night in dark rooms? I have one that didn’t and I realized it’s a pain to have to turn on a light to take the temp of a sleepy kid. I do like the “clean me” alert. That’s really cool! I’m surprised at the price though…. most thermometers are WAY more than that, so it seems this one is good for big families on a budget.

Yes, it does have a backlit display, but it only stays lit for a few seconds.
