I’m about ready to pull my hair out. I can’t for the life of me explain to my boys that it’s easier to play when their room doesn’t look like a disaster zone.
My boys are the worst about pulling out every single toy and then playing with only a select few. I’m going to have to get some barrier tapes and block off certain areas of their closet so it will make it impossible for this to happen again.
No matter how many times I tell them, no matter how many toys I donate to Goodwill, no matter how many I throw away, they just don’t get it. And when I try to explain it, I get this look.
I’ll just have to warn visitors with some bright yellow warning tape!
Sara - Dealicious Mom says
I swear you read my mind! This is eactly how my boys room is. I clean – they dump it back out! I donate – it makes no difference! I clean and 5 seconds later it looks like I did nothing!
I feel you – let me know if you ever figure out a solution!
Crystal says
If I figure it out, I’ll be sure to share the formula to success.

Lol!! His room looks lie my daughter’s I am forever telling her to pick things up. She thinks the living room is her own personal drop off location for everything too, it drives me bonkers!
Crystal says
Oh my gosh, my children do the same thing. I absolutely hate seeing their stuff in the living room. It’s like, you have a room, keep your stuff in there 😉
Kasandria Reasoner says
My sons is the same except most of the mess are books. Books here and there and everywhere.
Kas
Crystal says
I’d much rather it be books, dear 😉

My boys room are the same as well.No matter how myself or their dad clean up they donot get it either.Their room sometimes look like a tornado. But I donate their toys to the Salvation Army and sometimes they would do it to.That way they would learn to be responsible for their own things and donate to charities. So that when they get older there wouldnot be a problem with them doing that.
Crystal says
I love when parents teach their children the value of giving back to the community. Great job, mama!

OMG, I thought I was the only one going through this lately. This week, my son has been dumping his toy boxes out on the floor and making it impossible to walk in his room w/out stepping and breaking toys.
I am getting frustrated cleaning the room, because he will just make a mess again.
If only there were more hours in the day!
Crystal says
I keep thinking if I only had at least four extra hours in the day! I could be super mom — LOL!
Nichol says
LOL this is what my playroom looks like all week. Zoe does really well keeping it picked up but we sort through everything once a week. It’s useless…
Jen - Life With Levi says
Levi’s only just turning 1 and he does this too! Toys in the living room, Tupperware in the kitchen – I need some caution tape for so Jason doesn’t trip at night!
Some Lucky Dog says
As a Mom with two boys and five grandsons, I can assure you that this does not get better as they get older 🙂
Crystal says
Oh no, don’t tell me that 😉
Charlotte Varner says
My 6 year old daughter is the same way. I actually entered her room into a messy room contest. It’s still going on over at “Great Useful Stuff” on fb! There’s like 10 days left and whoever wins gets a $400 gift card to their store which they have some awesome organzing stuff! You have to get votes to win.
Crystal says
How can I vote? I’d love to help out.
Charlotte Varner says
Aww thanks so much!! I’m behind like 250 votes…

Oh, the memories!
That reminds me of how my boys rooms used to look.
I wonder what they look like now that they have their own houses?
Tiffany says
Lol – I seriously feel you on this one. Although it’s gotten to the point that they have to pick up toys anytime they want to to do something or have a privilege….so I think they are getting smarter about only pulling out toys they really want to play with.
Brian Reasoner says
Well I tell ya…I am a 40 year old boy and my room still looks like this. Just ask Kas…they may never get it! LOL.
Debbee Reed says
My oldest son is good about keeping his room clean, but my 3 yr old is just the opposite! My neighbor gave me the idea of rotating the toys every few months so they don’t get board with what they have. So, every few months, pack up some “old” and bring in some “new”. Then you can make some “disappear”
Kelly says
That’s exactly how our living room looks – it’s a disaster area!
