Right now, the only way to stay up-to-date with Simply Being Mommy is to follow me on Twitter, “Like” me on Facebook, or subscribe either through an email subscription or in an RSS feed. Lately, however, I’ve been noticing that some bloggers are also offering a mailing list form you can fill out to be enrolled in an email newsletter.
So, my dilemma is should I stick with the basic email subscriptions that send out updates when the blog is updated or should I add one of those fancy email newsletters that I see all the bloggers adding as a way to keep in touch.
Decisions, decisions…
If I decide to add a newsletter, I’m going to have to find a way to actually create the newsletter. The problem is, I have no idea how to create HTML forms and I’m pretty sure HTML is required to create a newsletter. I totally should have bought the HTML for Dummies book I saw at Barnes & Noble the other day.
So, as a reader, if I offered a separate newsletter that would only be sent occasionally with important updates or special offers, would you subscribe to newsletter?

I have been thinking about this too – and like you, have no idea how to do it! I think I would sign up to yours 🙂
Nichol says
I’ve thought about this as well, as they look professional and I love the looks of them. I think I’m going to stick with my daily newsletter for now, but of course I’d sign up to yours. Right now I don’t sub to any only through my reader which is less emails.

Since it’s optional, it’s nice to have a variety of options so they can choose how to hear from you.
Louise says
I would sign up. I keep thinking about making one too, but it would just be something else I have to keep up with.
Crystal says
Aww, well thanks!
Joanne P. says
Hi Crystal,
I would definatley subscribe to your newsletter!
🙂
Crystal says
Thanks Joanne! That’s great to hear.
LaKeshia Coleman says
I would definitely sign up for your newsletter and by the way when I get through posting this on your blog I am going straight to Facebook to like you as well. That way I could keep up with you one way or another.
Crystal says
Thanks, LaKeshia! I’m so happy to hear that.

I love the simplicity of your emails. The news letters can get real “busy” and I don’t like to search for things. Yours are VERY EASY TO READ!
I just set up a twitter account, so I follow you all the ways I can:)
Crystal says
Thank you, Debbee!
Linda Kish says
I would probably sign up but I don’t know what the advantage is if we read every day anyway.
Crystal says
I’m not sure there is an advantage. That’s kinda why I haven’t implemented anything yet. The daily email updates seem to be sufficient. Thanks so much for your input.

I think it’s nice to offer the option, but it can be a lot of work to keep up with. However, you do not have to know HTML to get a newsletter up and running. I’ve used MailChimp for quick email blasts and it works great and is super simple to design and make perfect. I think you only can have 500 emails on a list for the free version, but their paid versions aren’t very expensive either.
Crystal says
Nice to know, thanks Lindsay!
Kelly says
Of course I’d subscribe to your newsletter! Would you be doing more special event/giveaway type emails or what would differentiate the newsletters from regular email subscriptions?
Crystal says
I’m not sure what it would be but probably just more special type “stuff”. I’m glad to hear that people would subscribe though LOL!
Shop with Me Mama (Kim) says
I would subscribe too. I think, if done right, newsletters are a fun way to reach out to your readers from time to time!
Crystal says
Thanks Kim!

I do not understand the difference between the two…I need less email not more.
The only problem I have had with being an email subscriber to some blogs is getting their email on Thursday when something ended on Wednesday…like a 24hr giveaway or a reminder to enter something, but it has already ended. That drives me crazy!!!
Charlotte Varner says
Yeah I know what you mean lol. I have that happen from one blog all the time!
Tricia @Nightowlmama says
I too like the newsletter but as a blogger that puts out giveaway posts I think that it’s better for a daily to go out but I have seen blogs with both.
Charlotte Varner says
Personally my opinion as a reader is that I love email subscriptions waaaay better. Newsletters just seem like their too robotic and not really relating to me on a personal level. I know that sounds confusing and wish I could explain it. I’m subscribed to both but let me just tell you some of the newsletters get annoying to me! Just my opinion. Do whatever makes you happy though because it’s your blog. Either way I’ll still be here.
Crystal says
Thanks so much for your feedback!
blueviolet @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
Can you imagine the time you’d have to spend to do that? Hire an assistant first! (Or make Ryan do it, lol)
Lorie Shewbridge says
Even though I really don’t know what the difference is, I would sign up for a newsletter from you for sure because it is YOU!
You have been my #1 fan from the beginning and I will follow and subscribe to anything you have to offer, ’cause I lubs you!! <3
