I’ll go ahead and admit — I love chocolate! But, I’m more of a closet chocolate eater because I try to practice what I preach to my children. When my children are able to indulge themselves in a little chocolate they know it’s a big treat. And by golly, they loved this little creation I made using Splenda. We’ll just call it Chocolate Peanut Butter Snack Mix {recipe coming soon}.
I was recently sent a few products from the new Splenda Sweetener line, Splenda Essentials, and have been using it in everything that calls for sugar. I’ve used Splenda No Calorie Sweetener in the past, in fact, if you were to look in my pantry, I have some right now. So, I am familiar with the products and was super excited to try the new products.
Because I’m always looking for ways to make sure my family is healthy and eating properly, I love having the flexibility of being able to substitute Splenda in many of my recipes. You use Splenda just as you would sugar and it can be used in anything from your morning cup of coffee to your go-to savory recipes and most importantly, those sweet recipes. You use it just as you would sugar. If a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of sugar, you would substitute 1/2 cup of Splenda. Easy peasy!
Splenda Essentials is in my opinion an improved version of the original Splenda. It still tastes the same but now you get a boost of healthy nutrients such as fiber, antioxidants and B-vitamins. I’ll take the extra nutrients any day. As a busy mommy to three young children, it’s sometimes hard to make sure I’ve had my daily requirements.
In addition to substituting Splenda for sugar, I always try to make sure we have fresh fruits and vegetables on hand for quick snacks, I use whole grains when available, I always have a supply of ice cold water available in the refrigerator, and I’m a stickler for portion control.

I have just recently started cooking and eating healthier. I substitute low calorie and fat free items in my recipes and gave up pretty much everything but water for drinking. I’ve also started walking for at least an hour a day. My tip is you have to do it for yourself because if its not, you wont stick to it .

Not only does this give us a chance to exercise but also to talk about our day and reconnect. I just retired a year ago. I was determined to eat healthier to live longer, and my hubby was quite overweight. In fact I told him I was going to really be made if he died on me now that we retired and lots of fun things to do yet.
