If you are like most of the human race, you like sweet treats. I’ll proudly raise my hand and confess that I like a sweet treat. My husband likes a sweet treat and my children, especially, like a sweet treat. But what I don’t like is what comes with those sweet little treats. Loads of sugar, an abundant amount of calories and added inches to our waistlines.
Atkinson’s, a local candy company has been offering sugar and gluten free candies since 1932. Up until recently though, I had no idea they were a local company. I’ve seen their offerings all my life, especially when visiting local mom and pop restaurants. when we lived in the country and when we would visit family up in East Texas. You could always pick up either a Chick-O-Stick or Mint Twist before you walked out the door.
Although my family doesn’t suffer with any food allergies, I know many families do. With the gluten free selection offered by Atkinson’s, you can still enjoy a sweet treat without the consequences of the gluten.
If you are just looking for a sugar-free alternative, they’ve got that too. I like giving my children a special treat every now and then, and I’d prefer it not be loaded with sugars. That’s why the Chick-O-Sticks and the Peanut Butter Bars don’t last too long around here. I have them sitting in a nice little bowl in the entry way, and I’ve noticed that each day, the supply gets less…and…less.
The combination of coconut and peanut butter in the Chick-O-Sticks makes for a delicious combination of flavors in your mouth. The Peanut Butter Bars are crunchy, tasty and bursting with peanut butter flavor. And, the Mint Twist is well, minty and perfect for an after-meal snack.
If by chance you’ve never heard of Atkinson’s or tried any of their many different candy varieties, they are hosting a Twitter Party and I highly encourage you to attend. Not only will there be amazing prizes to be won, you’ll be able to learn more about the company and the products they offer.

Wow. This might be the answer to my prayers. 🙂 I love treats, but am sick of the effect sugar has on my energy. I also know that gluten isn’t exactly wonderful for me either. I will definitely be looking for Atkinson’s in my store now. Thank you!
