What’s better than spending quality time completing crafts and science projects with your kiddos? Getting a box mailed straight to your door every month with all the supplies you need to complete not one or two, but three separate projects! Welcome to The Happy Trunk!
The Happy Trunk is a great way to tear the kids away from the television, spend a rainy afternoon, or alleviate the dreaded “Mom, I’m b-o-r-e-d” whining! The Happy Trunk is tailored specifically to your child’s age and is filled with appropriate activities.
Our shipment, Fun with Food, included three food-themed projects. The first was a mosaic tile coaster craft. Since there was enough plaster of Paris to make two coasters, each of my boys made one. It was a pretty simple craft to do. Gavin had no problems but Garrett made a bit of a mess with his. I tried to smooth it all out, but his coaster still dried a bit lumpy. It’s still cute though, and we had never done this sort of craft.
Garrett, 7, really wasn’t too interested in the next project, so Gavin, 9, took it over. The build-your-own Germinator was a really cute science project and was a great opportunity to enhance some of the things he had already learned in school. What was really cool was watching the seeds grow over a period of a few days.
The third project was a design-your-own lunch bag. Paint, fabric markers, and foam stickers were included. Not the most elaborate craft out there, but Garrett really enjoyed painting and decorating his bag.
Also included in The Happy Trunk were some coupons and a sample of Happy Squeeze Apple Caramel Treat.
Overall we were very satisfied with The Happy Trunk. The boys thought it was pretty neat to get a box full of activities in the mail. The activities weren’t all that difficult or very time consuming. The instructions were specific and easy to follow. I oversaw the projects but honestly both boys could have probably done all three activities independently.
I’m a busy mom and honestly, just not that creative. I’m not that mom with the endless supply of ideas and crafting materials, even though I wish I were. I enjoy doing projects with the kids, I really do, but I don’t always have the time or energy to plan them. I keep basic stuff at home like markers and construction paper. Anything more involved than that usually means a run to the craft store! For me the convenience of the Happy Trunk is well worth the price.

The Happy Trunk is available for $19.95 (which includes shipping) and there are several ways to join; monthly, every 3 months, every 6 months, or a yearly subscription. Gift options are also available.

Ooh I love that this is geared toward your child’s age! I tried a similar program & the activities all ended up being too old for my son, despite their claim that he was in the age range.

Do you get the age 3-7 shipment or 8-11? My son is 7. I don’t want to get him the younger one and have it be to childish, but don’t want the older one to be too complicated for him either.
Missy says
Hi Stephanie,
I would probably suggest getting the 8-11 shipment. My younger son was only 7 at the time and he had no problem doing the crafts and projects in the kit we received with his older brother. Besides, if you do a year subscription he will be 8 before it ends and might be bored with the younger kit. I supervised all the activities (no way were they painting and mixing plaster of paris on their own, not in my dining room!), so if you happened to get one a little advanced for your son you can always just do it together!
