Temp-tations Cookies and Cakes

Growing up with my enormous family, the center of our house’s activity was the kitchen.  Even today, that’s where we gather, where we chat, where we spend time with Mom.  Those happy memories of my siblings helping her cook (mostly just getting in the way) are something I wanted to share with my own children.

Tara McConnell, creator & designer of Temp-tations, has a similar story of cherishing time in the kitchen with her own mother.  This inspiration led to creating a line of all-purpose stoneware and cookware featured on QVC.  She said,  “I believe every family should be able to sit down to a wonderful meal together, no matter how busy their days are.”  Her new line of baked goods is available on the Temp-tations website, featuring her family’s recipes.

I had the pleasure of sampling two of Tara’s treats: the Melt-in-Your-Mouth Wedding Cookies and Sunday Afternoon Crumb Cake.

• I’d never had a wedding cookie, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  The powdered sugar-covered treat looked like a biscuit, but was sweet like a cookie.  Sprinkled throughout were bits of walnuts. I’m not waiting for a wedding to eat these again!
• Now crumb cake is something I was more familiar with, and a baked good I’ve even made several times myself.  Temp-tations’ version features three layers: a yellow pudding cake, raspberry preserves, and the crumb topping.  The surprise layer of raspberry preserves made it an extra decadent treat.

My sisters and I have a summer weight-loss challenge, and I’m losing.  In an effort to try to improve my stats, I didn’t open the treats the day they arrived on my doorstep.  I couldn’t resist long (probably why I’m losing), and I was pleasantly surprised how moist both the cookies and cake were, thanks to the plastic wrapping and stay-fresh outer wrapper.  Since I keep going back for more of these yummy sweets, I probably won’t pull into the lead this week but it will be well worth it.
