Something magical happens when you pass through the gates of the Disney parks: a new side of yourself is revealed. It’s the “you” that didn’t grow up; the “you” who doesn’t have a to-do list, carpool duty, or piles of laundry. That “you” is your Disney Side. I was able to join in the fun for the launch of Disney’s new campaign, #DisneySide, featuring over 20 social media all-stars.
The celebration began with the largest ever group “selfie” in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. I am probably the last person on the planet to master the selfie…and I think I’m okay with that. It was fun to learn that Disneyland is the most Instagram-ed place in the U.S. It’s no surprise considering it’s the most magical of all backdrops.
The day’s festivities focused on the social media all-stars, many of whom you know and love (but maybe a new favorite or two). These all-stars included:
- Charlie Capen actor, blogger, and funny daddy-dom instructor on HowToBeADad
- Bekka Palmer, formerly of the blog “Oh Joy,” and now Pinterest sensation
- Matthew Clarke, creator of “Convos With My 2-Year-Old“
- Joe Penna aka MysteryGuitarMan
- Mary Doodles time-lapse artist & amazing storyteller
- Lauren Randolph One of the Top 15 Instagram photographers
- Ridiculously Photogenic Guy Remember the guy that looks incredibly handsome even while running a marathon? That’s him.
The list of filmmakers, artists, and personalities goes on and on! Combined, all of these personas have over 2 billion views and over 30 million fans. Whether their following be on YouTube, Instagram, Vine, or Pinterest, these social media celebrities all debuted their #DisneySide through their various mediums. Some were funny, others heartwarming, and then there was Grumpy Cat.
Hosted by Cameron Mathison, the presentation captured the magic that is Disney. One of my personal favorites was Tiffany Alvord signing “It’s a Small World.” I’m a little partial as this has been my favorite attraction at the Disneyland Resort for as long as I can remember.
After the premiere of the diverse #DisneySide presentations, guests were welcomed to a meet-and-greet outside It’s a Small World. We overheard one guest detailing her multiple hour drive to get to meet Grumpy Cat in person…I mean, in feline.
It was such a fun opportunity to see these internet sensations in real life. Each of the premiere content, searchable using the hashtag #DisneySide, is now available and can be seen on the Disney Parks blog. However, it’s not just their Disney Side that makes up the campaign. You are also encouraged to share your Disney Side! Let loose, go play, and then tag your photos and videos with #DisneySide. You can also check out DisneySide.com to see how people let their Disney Side show!
How do you show your Disney Side?
