This is a partnered post with Sony. As always, opinions are my own.
I’ve done a ton of travel in the last five years and most of it has been alone. There is absolutely nothing worse than boarding a plane, alone, leaving your loved ones behind. I know business is business and folks do it every single day, but I truly hate not having them come along.
But, this past November my husband and I took a trip down to the Dominican Republic for a friends wedding. Beautiful, y’all…just beautiful. I shared a few of the pictures I took with my Sony NEX-5R shortly after we arrived back home.
I always find it funny when I’m on a plane and people are sleeping, or have those noise canceling headphones on to drown out all the noise because that is not me at all. In fact, I’m the one that jumps at every sound and I’m constantly scoping out my fellow passengers making sure nothing is amiss. But that is not my husband. At all. He’s one of those with the headphones.
I was able to snap this picture with my iPhone before we were told to turn everything off. If my husband knew about this picture, he would not be a happy camper. But it’s all for the sake of the blog…so it’s justified y’all! Plus, he doesn’t read it so he’ll never know!
When I received the Sony Noise Canceling Headphones (MDR-10RNC), I knew I probably wouldn’t get any use out of them since I like to be aware of what is going on around me at all times. So lets just say they were a little gift for my husband. (Shhhh! He doesn’t need to know that I got them as part of my partnership in the Sony Club.) He was excited to try them out during out flights in November and they didn’t disappoint.
While we were on the plane, I did try them on as well. What I liked most about them was that they didn’t hurt my ears, at all. The swiveling ear pads are incredibly comfortable and soft while still canceling out the noise around you. There is also padding on the top of the headband so that you have an all around comfortable wear.
Another feature that I liked was that the headphones come with a black carrying case so that you can keep the headphones and in-flight adapter together. The carrying case is compact so it’s easy to put inside your carry on, briefcase or backpack.
You can easily turn the headphones on and off with a slider toggle on the bottom of the left side. I really like the sleek look of the headphones. They look and feel like a quality made product and that is what I’ve come to expect from Sony.
These headphones aren’t just for use on a plane but really anywhere you want to drown out low frequency ranges. I wanted to use it to drown out my husband and children, but unfortunately they don’t work for that.
With most of my reviews I like to point out the good, the bad and the ugly. Because my husband enjoys these so much and doesn’t have anything bad to say about them, the only thing that I can think of that would be a negative would be the selling price. But if you can get past the sticker shock, I think you’ll really enjoy these.
Buy:
You can purchase the Sony Noise Canceling Headphones for the suggested retail price of $269.99. If you order from the Sony store, you will get free shipping on all orders of $25 or more.

Those look great! I’m the same way as you with wanting to hear my surroundings, but my husband is the same as yours with the noise cancelling. He uses headphones like that when he’s on the computer which drives me crazy when I’m trying to talk to him!

Now these are cool, I love them! I think I need to get a pair, and I love how soft they look. I hate headphones that hurt my ears or head shortly after I put them on!!

I could use these on car road trips when the kids are driving me bonkers; are we there yet, how much further blah blah. I could get past the price because a pair of quality headphones is really needed these days. They look wonderful.
Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
That’s what I need to start using. I like to watch movies at night on my iPad and these would be way better than using earbuds which hurt. They’re obviously very comfortable!

Those look so comfortable! My husband’s birthday is in February and I know he’d love them.

Well, with such a nice pair, he definitely can’t complain about a little snapshot being his part of the deal 🙂 Those look fantastic and I especially like the facts that you can fold them flat and they have an included case.

We have so many headphones because we think they’re comfy for a while and then our ears start to hurt from them, I ‘d be interested in trying these because you mentioned they didn’t hurt your ears.

These are stunning headphones! I don’t travel very often but can easily see how great these would be during a flight. I would also love to have them at the gym to get deeper in the zone during my workouts!
