This is a partnered post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
My daughter is growing up so fast, y’all. I looked at her the other day and I was slapped in the face with the realization that my time with her is slipping away. Before I know it she will be graduating high school and going off to college somewhere. The hopes of her father and I are that she’ll stay close, but her dream is fashion design and New York.
When I was looking at her, I couldn’t believe how much she had seemed to change, almost overnight. I guess there’s something about 6th grade that does that to you. She looked taller, slimmer, and older. My firstborn, the little girl that made me momma, is such a wonderful young lady full of sparkle, style and pizzazz.
Every now and then, she’ll ask me to do something with her hair. For the most part, she can do it on her own, which always amazes me. It’s truly inspiring the things she can do with her hair, considering mine won’t even hold a curl. She can throw it up on the top of her head, tie it with an elastic, and it looks like she spent hours on it. Just last night as she was doing homework, she had her hair in a top knot on the top of her head. The impressive part to me, was that I had just walked out of the room for a few seconds and voila — perfect hair.
Hair is not my strong suit folks, but it’s not for lack of trying. I was gifted with a head full of thick, long locks that I love. But, these thick, long locks are pretty boring. They don’t hold a curl, they’re flat and just — boring. My daughter however, did not take after me. She has a gorgeous head of hair that is easily manageable and style-able.
Holiday Hairstyles for Tweens
Since the holidays are right around the corner, I’ve partnered with Tresemme to bring awareness to holiday hairstyles for tweens. I thought it would be perfect mother and daughter bonding time to try to recreate one of the hairstyles from the Tresemme stylists.
Because my daughter’s hair is thin, I wanted to find a style that would give her a full and sophisticated look without taking away from her childhood charm. After watching all five videos, I decided on doing the ‘Primped & Polished’ look.
Step One: Apply Mousse. Place a small amount on your palms and work evenly through hair.
Step Two: Blow Out Hair. Using the concentrator nozzle attachment for your blow dryer, blow dry hair using a round brush.
Step Three: Part Hair. Place your part wherever you like it.
Step Four: Section Hair. Start by sectioning from ear to ear and with the back section straight across creating a top and a bottom. Secure each section with a clip. You should have four distinct sections.
Step Five: Braid Hair. Braid everything at the back of the head on the bottom section into a standard 3-strand braid.
Step Six: Secure ends with an elastic.
Step Seven: Pull braid up tightly, tuck in the ends, and secure with bobby pins.
Step Eight: Wrap front side sections around braid. Lightly drape the sections over the ear back towards the braid. Work the ends into the braid.
Step Nine: Secure with bobby pins.
Step Ten: Add Headband: Place a decorative headband between the front and back sections.
Step Eleven: Tease Hair. Drop the remaining top section over the braid. Take thin sections and with a teasing brush lightly tease each section. Spray each section with hairspray to hold tease.
Step Twelve: Gather Hair. Gently gather the hair into the middle of the back of the head.
Step Thirteen: Create another 3-strand braid. Braid all the way down and tuck the ends under the other braid.
Step Fourteen: Secure with bobby pins.
Ours turned out a little different, simply because my daughter’s hair is thin and at times I couldn’t get the bobby pins to hold it in place. However, I love the way it turned out. I did a little braided bun at the end and think it’s perfect for a tween, like my daughter.
The best part of this holiday hairstyle for tweens is that it doesn’t take a lot of time. The holidays are a busy time of year and our schedule is packed. Being able to create a cute holiday hair style that she and I both love makes the holidays even more brighter.

Oh I love how cute that came out! Wish my oldest would do things with her other than shove it under a beanie.

That came our really good. I’m not one to do much with either of my daughter’s hair but i have learned to put it in a nice tight bun because of dance class. This would work great for that too.
The upside of all the braids is if she sleeps in them, she’ll have lots of curls in the morning!

Those are really pretty. I have never been very good at doing anything fancy with my girls’ hair, most of the time it is a simple pony tail. I should try something like this, they have such pretty hair 🙂

Mine is now a full fledged TEEN – and I am always amazed at some of the hairstyles she walks out of the bathroom with. I never really learned to “do” much with my hair – but she is so creative with hers. I will have to show this to her – I know she would love it.

Oh I hear you they do grow up much too fast! My oldest is a high school senior dreaming of going to college in Canada… I can’t blame her, I left France to come to the US for college and well… I moved even further from my parents when I graduated… all the way to LA! That hair style is gorgeous and something I may try with my 7 year old. Thanks for sharing!
