With summer in full swing there are children around the country that are at home while they’re parents are away at work. I remember when I was growing up, I stayed home with my younger brother during the summer while my parents worked. It wasn’t a big deal to me, but I’m sure for my parents, it was a constant worry that my brother and I were home alone.
Thankfully, since I work at home, I’m almost always with my children. I’ve started allowing my oldest to stay at home for very short periods of time while we’re out and I like the luxury of being connected to my home with the Kidde RemoteLync Monitor even when I’m away.
The Kidde RemoteLync Monitor is a small unit that is plugged into an outlet in your home. I placed ours in an inconspicuous area behind a chair in our family room. Unless you’re looking for it, you can’t see it. It’s purpose is to listen for any UL listed smoke or CO alarm that is installed in your home and notify you if it hears an alarm.
The Kidde RemoteLync Monitor was an absolute breeze to setup and I was able to do it by myself in under five minutes. After downloading the free RemoteLync App (available for iOS and Android), I created an account with an email I could check on my iPhone since that was the device I was using to set it up. Just keep that in mind when you’re setting up your device.
Just a note: I was unable to receive the confirmation email through my Hotmail account. However, it worked just fine with my Gmail account. After confirming my email address, I returned to the app to login to my account.
The next step required that I plugged the monitor into a non-switch outlet in my home. In the app on my device, I selected the Add/Connect feature to begin pairing the two devices. In the Wi-Fi settings on my phone, I connected to the monitor to my wireless router.
After plugging in the unit, I pressed the setup button on top of the unit and then followed the instructions given by the app. To test the unit, I had to make the furthest alarm from the unit sound. I didn’t realize all the alarms in my home were connected so we had a house full of loud beeping for a few seconds. Talk about sore ear drums.
After confirming that the unit was working, I was able to add people from my list of contacts to help monitor the home while we’re away. Each time the Kidde RemoteLync Monitor hears an alarm sound, the list of contacts specified within the app will receive a message.
Once the unit is up and running, you will be able to change monitor name, test monitor, view notification history and more.
The Kidde RemoteLync Monitor uses a patented technology to listen to the smoke and CO alarms already installed in your home, notifying you via the free app, text or email if the alarms sound. And there are no monthly fees for this service. After the initial purchase of the unit, there are no extra or added fees. Just a one-time fee and your home is constantly connected and ready to alert you in case of a problem. It’s user-friendly and is an inexpensive way to create a “smart home.”
While I definitely don’t ever want to get a notification from the Kidde RemoteLync Monitor, I like knowing that if I’m away and tragedy strikes, I’ll be notified so that the proper emergency respondents can be notified as soon as possible.
You can purchase the Kidde RemoteLync Monitor at Home Depot for the suggested retail price of $99!
What do you think about the Kidde RemoteLync Monitor? Will you be buying one for your home?

It is truly amazing what technology can do! I love this idea! My oldest is getting to the age where I can leave him home for SHORT periods of times. Before I do, I would like this to ensure he is safe!

This would be wonderful for our family right now. My oldest recently turned 11 and now hates going into the childcare room at the gym during my workouts. A monitor like this would allow me to feel confident about leaving her home alone for short spans.

Ok, I’m convinced. I’m getting one at Home Depot this weekend. I wouldn’t want to get notified either but for my son’s and family’s safety, I think it’s worth it.
Chrystal | YUM eating says
That is a really cool gadget. We live in a rural area so we are extremely leery of leaving kiddo along, even for a quick run up the street to the gas station. Something like this would really be helpful to squash a few of our fears.
Kiwi says
Technology is getting more and more advanced! This is great and safety wise this is amazing!
Shell Feis says
I love that! My kids aren’t old enough to leave alone yet, but I still want that for if I leave them with a sitter- it just would help me feel more at ease.

Megan @ C'mon Get Crafty says
While my kids are far too young to be home alone, this would still be a giant comfort when we are all awa.y.
Ora Lee Gurr says
The Kidde RemoteLync Monitor sounds like a perfect idea for my home. We are in the boondocks and I’m not sure someone would notice a problem until the house burned and the fire had spread far enough to threaten other areas. Knowing other people will be notified as well is a great benefit.
Candy o says
Wow this is such an awesome product! I love that it will notify others as well. This is definitely needed!
Christie says
I love that this monitor can connect to others safely through an app. So easy to use and install too!
