I’m proud to be working with CVS Pharmacy on the CVS Pharmacy Difference Campaign. All opinions expressed are my own, and all product claims or program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.
As a long time customer of both CVS Pharmacy and Target, this new partnership between the two retailers is pretty exciting for me. Having CVS Pharmacy inside Target Stores makes it easy to get most of the household shopping done at one place. As a busy mom, I’m all about convenience!
CVS Pharmacy Inside Target Stores
Late last year CVS acquired Target’s 1,672 pharmacies across 47 states and will operate them through a store-within-a-store format, branded as CVS/pharmacy inside Target stores. The new CVS Pharmacy locations inside Target stores feature a new look, offer expanded pharmacy care services and enhanced digital tools for Target guests. In addition, 79 Target clinic locations will be rebranded as MinuteClinic, and CVS will open up to 20 new clinics in Target stores within three years.
The store-within-a-store concept is becoming more and more popular. Not only does it generate extra foot traffic for the lessee, Target in this case, but also provides extra revenue for the lessor. In this case, two separate companies who share the same logo colors, and aisles that share some of the same products, will now be sharing floor space. And if you’re a shopper of either, you’ll now benefit from this acquisition.
What does this mean for the loyal CVS shopper?
Basically, it just means you have more convenience when it comes to where you get your prescriptions filled. You will enjoy all the same benefits of shopping in a CVS store, including ExtraCare Rewards and ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards.
If you’re picking up toilet paper at Target, you now have the convenience of getting your prescriptions filled while doing your other shopping. I think it’s important to point out though, that this is a store-within-a-store model, so Target items will not be available for purchase at the CVS Pharmacy counter. Target merchandise will need to be paid for in the Target checkout lanes while CVS Pharmacy merchandise will need to be paid for at the CVS Pharmacy counter.
What does this mean for Target Pharmacy customers?
All existing patient records and prescriptions were transitioned from Target to CVS, and most insurance plans transferred seamlessly, according to company representatives. If you used Target Pharmacy’s loyalty program, you might be sad to learn it was discontinued, BUT you are highly encouraged to use CVS’ ExtraCare loyalty program. Not only will you earn $5 ExtraBucks for every 10 prescriptions filled, but you’ll be rewarded for the other things you do to stay healthy like getting immunized and choosing email refill reminders.
I think this partnership between the two brands is good for consumers. It will help streamline our errands to get more done with one stop.
What are you thoughts on this partnership between Target and CVS Pharmacy?

I had read about the acquisition a while back. One bonus is that now people will have a whole store to browse while waiting for their prescriptions if they like.

I think this is awesome. I have some family that their favorite is CVS pharmacy but they didn’t have any stores near where they moved, but they DO have targets! This means they can get their favorite pharmacy back!
Michele says
I am so excited to see this!! I love CVS but shopping at Target while getting my perscriptions will be killing two birds with one stone.
Andrew says
This is very convenient, but that means moving the sick and possibly contagious people into Target rather than keeping CVS & Minute Clinic as a stand-alone store. Hmm…
Crystal says
Many Targets already have pharmacies anyway, they are just being rebranded into CVS.

I heard about this not too long ago. Having worked in a pharmacy for 15 years, I think it is a good transition. Makes multitasking easier.

So – A Target just opened in my area in walking distance from my home! It’s one of those mini-Targets and I can’t tell you how much I love it! They have a TON of organic foods and other things that we don’t have in that specific locaion. I was also excited to see a CVS pharmacy in the store. I take medication for my autoimmune disorders daily and will transfer my stuff over to CVS because of it’s convenient location AND better store hours.

I’m in Target all the time and didn’t see this was happening. It makes it so much easier for me to wait for my scripts!
Stacie says
I LOVE that CVS is at Target now. They’ve always been my two favorite stores. I’ve been shopping at Target and filling scrips at CVS forever.

I had no idea that this was happening. I have always had good luck with CVS pharmacies.

ohhhh two stores I love. I can’t wait until my local target picks this up. Our insurance gives us a break at CVS, too!

This is awesome news. We like CVS a lot and we tend to stop there every now and then. Some of the Target locations might be even more convenient.

I noticed this change in Atlanta a few months ago. I had a great chat w/ the CVS pharmacist at Target about the high cost of my son’s epipen. They had some suggestions on reducing the cost.

I love shopping at Target, but typically get my prescriptions filled at CVS or Walgreens, so this is a win for me. I can now have the benefits of CVS and Target in one spot! 🙂

I have never shopped in a CVS pharmacy because we don’t have them around here. I wonder if this will include the Target that is closest to me.
Rosey says
That’s intersting how they’re dealing with the changes. I didn’t know they had the merge.
Dawn McAlexander says
This is a great idea. Unfortunately, there is neither a Target or a CVS Pharmacy close to me, so it really doesn’t serve me any better. I hate that. I like both Target and CVS.

I was so surprised about this when I first heard it! A store inside of a store. It definitely would help both stores at this point!
Christina Aliperti says
This is perfect. It will save me time instead of traveling to both Target and then CVS for my prescriptions. I can get everything done in one place and I love that.

Great to know about this good news. This reminds me of a similar pharmacy in our local malls in the Philippines.
