I was recently asked if I wanted to try out Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser. My first thought was no. I have a facial cleanser that I have been using for years, it works, so there is no need to change. After reading up on Albolene and finding out that a recent study found that Albolene is an effective moisturizer for eczema, I decided to give it a shot.
My first son and husband both suffer from mild cases of eczema but really only have a big problem with it during the winter months. They still have a few flare ups here and there but not nearly as bad in the humid warmer months here in Texas.
My daughter has this stuff (I stay stuff because I don’t know what it is) on her right knee that is white, bumpy and dry. I haven’t taken her to the doctor to see what it was because I actually just discovered it a couple of weeks ago after she starting getting a tan from playing outside. I started to massage Albolene on her knee at night after her bath and I’ve seen a huge improvement. At first the areas were raised, bumpy and dry. Now after using Albolene for about a week, the areas are still white, but they are not raised and dry anymore. While I know Albolene isn’t a cure, it does help relieve the symptoms until I can get her in to her pediatrician.
Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser has also been used for decades as an effective and gentle makeup remover. Many Broadway stars use it for those hard to remove “waterproof” and “smudge-proof” cosmetics. Being the skeptic that I am, I slathered on the mascara, several applications worth and put Albolene to the test.
My first thoughts on Albolene was that when I took off the lid, it reminded me of petroleum jelly. I scooped up some with my fingers and rubbed it in between my fingers to kind of melt it with my body’s heat. I’m used to using a cream cleanser, so this was very new to me and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
I started by massaging the Albolene onto my face to kind of get the feel for it. It’s far more “greasy” feeling than my normal cream cleanser. I then started on the mound of mascara that I had applied to my eyelashes and I was amazed by how easy it started to come off. With my normal cleanser I would have to scrub with a washcloth but with Albolene I didn’t have too. Even though you don’t have to use water with Albolene, I did. Rather than just using a tissue to remove it, I used a damp washcloth. As I was removing the Albolene the mascara just “slid” off of my eyelashes and the skin around my eyes. I was quite impressed to say the least. I had been using a washcloth and tugging on that sensitive area around my eyes causing more wrinkles than were already there.
I’m really glad that I was given this opportunity to review Albolene because I probably wouldn’t have bought it off the store shelf without knowing anything about it. Like I said, I was happy with my normal cream cleanser and didn’t see a need to change.
If you have oily skin, it is recommended that you not use Albolene.
Buy It:
You can purchase Albolene at many drugstores nationwide and on Amazon (my preferred way to shop). A 12 ounce jar retails for $9.99.
