I’ve written about lots of things here on my blog, but one thing I never thought I’d be writing about is the bathroom.
I have a love/hate relationship with our bathroom. I love that I have a bathroom to use and don’t have to rely on an outhouse or better yet a whole in the ground but I hate some of the things that go on in the bathroom, especially when you have children in the house.
To me, the toilet is a luxury – to my children, an experiment. Don’t believe me?!? Just look at what we snaked out of our clogged toilet…
That would be a juice box. I’m just thankful we were able to get to it and get it out of there!
If you watch TV, then I’m sure you’ve seen the latest Quilted Northern commercials with women talking about the bathroom experience. I think it’s totally cool that we can talk openly about the bathroom and what we expect with our toilet paper. Quilted Northern recently conducted a survey on bathroom behavior and the results are quite interesting. A whopping two-thirds of those surveyed say that bathroom-related topics are too taboo to discuss, and many soften or alter their language depending on the circumstance.
I guess I’m a part of the one-third because I really don’t alter my language when talking about the bathroom. If I have to potty, I always say “I have to go potty” and it really doesn’t matter who is around.
There are things that many people keep secret about the bathroom; but what’s the point of secrets? I’m going to confess all with a little video confession that will be up in a few days. You’ll definitely want to subscribe so you don’t miss it. Oh, and I’ll have a really awesome giveaway when I post the video too!
You can join in the conversation at www.facebook.com/QuiltedNorthern and on Twitter each week @QuiltedNorthern for some amazing opportunities to win free Quilted Northern Soft and Strong® for a year!
So, do you alter your language about the bathroom when around strangers or people from a different demographic? Or do you think bathroom talk should be off limits? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’m definitely one to alter my language around others! I embarrass easily. 😉

If I got to pee I got to pee. That is how it’s said no matter who is around or where I am. Glad you got that juice box out of the toilet.

Um, well, I DO alter the way I talk about it, but I think if we could all be more open about every day bodily functions, it would help people who have a problem who don’t really know it’s a problem. I suffered with Celiac disease and daily diah,…well, “you know” what I mean. When I found out at the age of 56 that it was not normal to be that way, I posted on my blog, but I STILL tip-toed around about it.
The point is, we ALL do it, we should be able to talk about it, but for some of us, we just aren’t there yet.

Well, it depends… I do say bathroom or if I’m really being polite restroom (that’s rare haha). But to my 2-year-old it’s the potty. As far as anything else, umm nope I don’t like being specific about what I’m doing in there, lol.

I’ve never thought about it, my daughter says potty, me.. bathroom, restroom. I don’t talk to people (except for those really close to me… LOL!!!) about what happens in there.

Nothing fazes me coming from other people, so I don’t care at all what they say around me. However, when it comes to me personally, I’m very private and discreet about such matters. I always use the words “Bathroom” or “Restroom”. I remember when I was a child, I told one of my pals that I needed to “Use the toilet”, and she chided me for saying “Toilet” instead of “Bathroom” – LOL.

I’ve come to learn that there is no TMI in the blogging world, especially when you are a mom. Can’t believe you found a juice box. And for the record – I pay more for soft toilet paper. 😉

Definitely Tiffany! Soft tp is a MUST!

I definitely alter my language when with company.

Well with my daughter who is still little we talk about things in kid talk ha ha. Usually I just say “potty” for everything. My daughter on the other hand of course, has no problem hollering “mom, I gotta go poop” 🙂

After being 1 of 9 kids on a farm and then having 6 kids…it’s not a mystery..it’s ALL out there for us!
I had to laugh out loud about the juice box. so many times we have had plumbing issues because of kids “experiments” with flushing. Once we were renting a house and my son let go of his ENTIRE little tool collection. thank goodness the landlord had kids. It was a learning experience for our little guy. I really think he thought we were gonna “find ” them for him and he could once again play with them. He watched all of it be bagged and tossed in the trash…and he NEVER did it again.

That first picture is great..it looks like the toilet is peaking around the corner!

Oh goodness, what a catch! I know with Dr. Oz going on Oprah that really opened up the more “private” health issues and some bathroom talk. Thanks for the insight.

That is too funny (LOL) I hope you submitted that pick to the sweepstakes because I am sure you will win for that one : ) I can so relate I had my last two children 11 months apart one girl and one boy. Let me tell you every since they were potty trained they have always used wads of toilet paper to the point of us getting the plunger out 🙂
