Can I be totally honest with you without fearing that you’ll shake your finger at me?
Are you sure?
Well, good.
While I totally love the idea of being able to do home improvement projects around the house, the simple fact is, my husband and I don’t know the first thing about home improvement. Anytime repairs need to be made or we want to upgrade, we call one of our dads. Both of them seem to be pretty handy. With each repair though, I feel like the hubby is learning something and hopefully one day we will be able to do it all ourselves. (I’m sure the dads would LOVE that.)
Currently, our ice maker in our refrigerator does not work. We figured out what part we needed (dads are great) and when I was searching online, I came across EasyApplianceParts.com. I love that they are accredited by the BBB plus they’ve received the BizRate Gold Medal for great customer service. Not only can I purchase the part we need, I found a handy dandy section where they offer a free refrigerator repair guide. I guess I should have done some searching before calling the dads.
After reading some of the findings from one of their recent polls from customers, I think the hubby needs to take a home improvement class. Here are some of the findings that I found interesting:
- Almost 80% of repairs require only 30 minutes (and 50% take less than 15!)
- Fridges tend to break the most (I knew that – from experience) – the average cost to repair them using parts from EasyApplianceParts is around $48
- On a 5 point scale, 88% of people said that their DIY repair was “Really Easy” – only 2% of people said it was “Very Difficult”
- A repairman can cost anywhere between $45 and $70 just to walk in the door, which doesn’t even include labor or parts
So tell me, are you a DIY type person or are you more like us, dependent on other people for help?

Personally, I’ve never had to be a DIY person, but I really do want to be when the time comes! I like to be self sufficient and independent, so I’ll probably be doing a lot of research on the internet myself xD

I would love to do things myself but I’m just not a handy or creative type of person. I always need help so don’t feel bad!

OH heavens no! I am not a DIY person. I certainly try to be but sometimes I just know I should not attempt it, LOL!

Growing up and even now, my dad is a “jack of all trades.” He can fix anything, whether we are talking about a drag racing car or a refrigerator. I never, ever thought I would marry a man like him, but somehow, I did. Between my dad and my husband, they remodeled our entire house from the wiring to tile floors, shower installation, etc. We didn’t hire anything out. I’m so use to having someone that knows how to do it all that I would probably be lost without them. Me? I like DIY when we are talking crafting, but beyond that, I hand it over to my husband or dad, haha.

I am not much of a DIY, but my husband is. I’ve learned a lot helping him.

I am DIY person and if I cannot find the answer I search on the internet for the best solution to my problem.

My husband isn’t the best at fixing things and I’m pretty handy so I’m the fixer and doer around here.

were about 50.50 on this. We do find ways to fix something ourselves but may times we also turn to the professionals it really just depends on the project and the urgency and severity and if we’ll blow ourselves up if we attempt it or not

I am SO not a DIY person. My husband knows how to fix things, but he can’t do cosmetic work to my satisfaction, LOL. So he can do the mechanical stuff, but I’ve learned that we should leave the surface work to the professionals.

We love DIY! I’ll be posting pictures of our living room remodel soon. My husband does everything in our home it is so fun remodeling this old house we bought.

I am totally a DIY – but that is because my dad owns his own handyman business on the side of his job, and I grew up helping him on little jobs. I love doing my own work around the house, when I can!
