Growing up, the best days of P.E. class were rainy days (and not because it meant P.E. was cancelled). On rainy days, we got to go into the school gym to have scooter races. Our scooters were square, plastic seats on 4 caster wheels. Not fancy at all, but so much fun. When I saw the Spin ‘N Saucer with Lights and Sounds from Radio Flyer, I knew my girls needed it! This is not the scooter I remember. It’s been redesigned and does so much more.
The Spin ‘N Saucer features a sturdy, rounded seat with a back for comfort and safety. Another safety feature is the low-profile seat for stability. I can’t promise my nephew isn’t going to try to use it as a skateboard, however. Riders also keep their hands off the ground, and out of the way of the wheels, by holding on to ergonomic handles. The Spin ‘N Saucer gives riders freedom of motion. The EZ-Glide wheels allow for 360 degree motion so you can spin and spin until your father gets motion sickness watching you.
Although Radio Flyer is known for their classic wagon, they have come up with something out of this world! The Spin ‘N Saucer features a rocket design equipped with lights and sounds, all adding to the intergalactic feel. The space commander’s messages of going to Mars were pretty convincing because Harper asked how to make it fly.
Recommended for ages 1.5 to 5, the scooter works well for children not quite ready for bicycles. My girls are hesitant to ride their two-wheelers, despite the training wheels. Feeling stable and close to the ground frees them up to have fun. I was worried that only getting one would cause arguments, but my girls loved taking turns pushing each other and their teddy bears down the sidewalk. Georgia, 5, went for speed, whereas Harper, 3, liked building coordination through spinning. A toy that can adapt to different ages and skill levels is always appreciated.
Although it would be appealing to older children also, the seat wouldn’t allow for much bigger kids. I couldn’t get myself in (and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get myself out). However, younger space cadets will adore blasting off on the Spin ‘N Saucer!
Buy:
You can buy the Radio Flyer Spin ‘N Saucer for the suggested retail price of $29.99.

Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says
I know what scooters you’re talking about and they were the best gym days! They had those at Little Caesar’s too when my kids were little. I like this cute one here, but I kinda liked that flat surface of yesteryear.
Melanie says
There’s a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in those old-fashioned ones for me. This is way safer for my little ones, though.
Nichol says
Omg I so want to get this. Our scooters were the same as yours. Radio Flyer makes high quality products, I would definitely consider buying this.
Melanie says
Ours would only go forward and backwards. I remember how dirty our hands would be by the end of class because we used our hands, rather than our feet. This has so many improvements from the ones I used.
