Call me Zack Morris because my old cellphone was straight out of “Saved by the Bell” — big, clunky, and way too slow. I’ve been counting down the days until an upgrade was available, but the new Windows 8 phone swooped in and saved my life. I’ve been using the Windows HTC 8X phone for a few weeks now, and it’s been such a great fit!
A phone that fits? Absolutely! The Windows 8 phone is the most personalizable smart phone out there. You have free reign to pin your favorite apps or people as “tiles” to your start screen. You can even change the size! My Start Screen is full of the things that keep me connected like email, social media, and quick access to my family and friends. Using the People hub, I can see what they’re saying on Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, etc. in one place. Since I’m mildly obsessed with my family, I’m thrilled to eliminate toggling between sites to see what everyone is up to!
How’d I personalize mine? I call my start screen “DIY Momma Knows What’s Going On.” Simply Being Mommy, Pinterest, and photos of my babies all share space on my Start Screen. There are separate tiles for different email accounts (one for mailing lists & coupons and the other for actual communication). There’s not always a ton of time to chat on the phone…okay, there’s rarely time. But, having Facebook and Twitter on the Start Screen keep me on top of what’s happening. There’s also the humorous pairing on My Fitness Pal and Betty Crocker apps residing side by side when I scroll down.
I create a totally unique set-up for my phone, and the Windows 8 phone is tailoring itself to me. For example, Local Scout scours my location to provide recommendations for dining and activities. It also takes into account the recommendations of my contacts on social media to ensure the best fit. Have a kiddo who only eats quesadillas and needs one now? Your search results can be tailored to where you’re ready for a fiesta sooner.
A phone’s main purpose is to keep us connected, but it can also document your lives, your relationship, or your grocery list. Using How We Met, you can see the story of how I met my husband. It’s been ten years since we started dating, and in a few weeks we’ll be celebrating our 8th anniversary. How great would this app be for an engaged couple to share with wedding guests? Or new parents retelling their love story? Whichever bond you highlight, you can capture and share your story on the Windows phone.
Life is busy, we all find ways to make the most out of our time.
The new Windows Phone is reinvented around you including features like Live Tiles, Live Apps, Kid’s Corner, and SkyDrive, making it easy for you to personalize your phone how you want it. Now it is easier than ever to stay in touch with what matters most.
