The most common complaint I get while we’re having a little fun in the pool is that the life jackets are so uncomfortable. But they don’t have to be. Puddle Jumpers are more comfortable and easier to wear than traditional life jackets.
We are barely into the spring months and my children are already craving wet summer fun. The one question I’ve been hearing most lately, “Mom, can we go to the pool?“
Although it is not quite time for splish splashin’ fun just yet, we are already planning our summer activities and many of them include water time. When my children aren’t playing in the pool, they are sliding around the yard on their slip ‘n slide, or pretending to water the yard as they spray each other with the water hose.
When it comes to water fun, there are some things you must keep in mind to ensure that everyone has fun and is kept safe. Here are my tips for staying safe during summer water fun:
Maintain Constant Supervision: While water can provide incredible fun, it can also be a danger if proper supervision is not provided. Smaller children should always be within arms reach and you should never take your eyes off of older children.
Swim Classes: If your children do not know how to swim, it’s a good idea to enroll them in a swim class before the start of summer to get them ready for summer water fun.
Use Floatation Devices: Use an appropriate life jacket like these from Stearns Puddle Jumpers. This is not an alternative to supervision. Find one that allows your child to be comfortable and move freely while in the water.
Wear Sunscreen: When enjoying water activities, make sure to lather up and re-apply as directed by product packaging.
My youngest son received a Puddle Jumpers life jacket for review and it’s unlike any other life jacket he has used before. I remember an instance last summer when we were swimming in a family members pool where the life jacket had rubbed him so much, it looked like a carpet burn on his chest. You know the kind, it looks like a vest and has four snaps in the front. Poor baby came home and I felt terrible when I noticed it.
His new life jacket is approved by the U.S. Coat Guard and is woven out of a soft polyester fabric which makes it more comfortable for his young, delicate skin. They come in a variety of prints and colors perfect for young children. Since my little guy loves dinosaurs, I chose the cute little dinosaur print above. He was thrilled with my choice and it suits him well.
I love that the Puddle Jumpers life jacket will grow with him. The adjustable buckle snaps in the back and makes it a safe choice for children between 30 and 50 pounds.
The unique design of the Puddle Jumpers life jacket doesn’t leave my son constricted and allows him full range of motion in his arms. He likes being able to move freely while still enjoying playing in the water…safely.
I like that this life jacket is more compact than our previous one and it fits easily into our bags. I foresee many hours of pool time in my very near future!
How do your kids like to spend their time outdoors?

That has to give you a little more peace of mind with those on him. Of course you would still supervise continuously but still, that little extra feeling of security with those on him would make me feel good.
PS. I have you as missing a round, but left you on cuz I know you’re good for it. 😉 Misssssssssss you!

I love that the floaty has a strap to keep it in place!

My daughter isn’t actually the outdoorsy type, but she does love the water park. I like the design of that life vest, you’re right in that traditional life vests are bulky and constrictive and aren’t overly conducive for water play.

I’ve seen these before. I wondered if they really worked.
Robin Gagnon {Mom Foodie} says
These would either help with my daughter’s confidence in the water… or she would freak and want it off immediately. 66% chance it would be that latter. 🙁

I really need to get my youngest one of those. He is not a strong swimmer yet, but thinks he is.

My little guy is still afraid of the water and this sounds like a great product! I’ll definitely have to check it out. 🙂

My kids started swim team at ages 4 and 6 but I always had a vest on them until I knew they could swim like fish. That looks like a nice design.

That is totally cute! I need to get Jakobi in some of those!

My kids love to be in the water during summer. Either at our local waterpark or the beach.
