For unique dining options when you’re visiting Phoenix, Arizona, check out all the options from Salty Sow.
I’m the type of person who pretty much orders the same entrees when dining out. I have my favorite entrees from each restaurant and just to stick to what’s familiar.
When I was invited to try out the offerings from Salty Sow in Phoenix, Arizona, I’ll admit I was a bit nervous when I took a look at the online menu. Bone Marrow. Liver Mousse. Neck Bone Gravy. I didn’t know any of these things were edible and yet here they were looking back at me on the menu.
Salty Sow offers modern farmhouse cuisine, combining new cooking techniques with old-world methods like braising, poaching, and stewing. You will see some not so common ingredient items on the menu, but don’t let that stop you from giving it a try. There are more traditional entree items as well if you aren’t the adventurous type (like me).
While I was there I learned that the menu can change daily depending on what is available fresh and local. While the online menu shows items that can be available at any given time, if they can’t get the ingredients fresh, it won’t be on the menu.
A variety of dishes were brought to the table for sampling. I didn’t try everything, like the Liver Mousse for instance, but I did try a majority of the items. The serving sizes are large and you should leave feeling full and satisfied.
The restaurant is inviting, open and airy. When I walked in, the wooden tables and chairs, the interior decorating and design reminded me of a modern farmhouse. There were a variety of table sizes to accommodate parties with as little as two upwards to 12.
There are two Salty Sow locations, this one in Phoenix and another in Austin, Texas. They are only open for dinner, so next time you are wanting to try something different, I’d recommend you give it a try. And don’t forget dessert. The rum balls were delicious.

I tend to stick with my usual goto meals too but it’s often nice to venture out of your comfort zone.

I wouldn’t have tried those either, yuck. I always stick to the same things as well at our favorite restaurants.

I think I would like dessert there the best.

I will be in Phoenix this July, and this looks like something my husband and older son would love! Thanks for the review!

I’m notorious for having my favorite things from each restaurant and that’s the only thing I’ll order there. I know I already like it, so I don’t have to worry about being disappointed. 🙂 I do get adventurous from time to time, though. Usually at my husbands insistence.

We eat out so rarely we always go to the same places and eat the same things. This seems to be a very unique menu, I can see these restaurants doing well in a large city.

I am not an adventurous eater either- and I always pick the same thing at restaurants too lol. I’d try some of their non-crazy food though, especially if it’s that fresh!
