Go outside and play. I say that to my kids a lot. But it’s so much more fun for all of us when we get to go outside and play together. Realizing how important play is to children’s development and the family unit, KaBoom has taken fun on the road with their Play Together Tour which kicked off this past weekend in Anaheim, California.
The free event, powered by Disney Parks, gives families an opportunity to engage in a variety of activities that allow them to play, problem solve, and make memories together. What should you expect from the Play Together Event? Together we made a flag at the Family Bonding Station. In addition to our family name, our flag featured all of the Ninja Turtles. My husband was so pleased.
The highlight of the event is the family obstacle course where you are asked to build, hop, solve, roll, and raise. When starting the obstacle course, we were asked to build a tunnel large enough for all of us to fit through. I’m not going to tell you about the fact that we each made our own tunnels and then had to combine them.
Regardless, we accomplished each task happily and were able to raise our family flag in celebration. I loved that we could award each member with accolades at the end in sticker form. Harper received “Most Supportive;” Georgia “Most Enthusiastic;” Matt “Most Competitive; “Best Problem Solver” for me.
After each activity, we received a laminated card that shares tips for how to become an even more playful family. Why does play matter? According to KaBoom!, lack of play causes physical, intellectual, social, and emotional harm to our children. There are the more obvious physical detriments of limited play such as increased likelihood of obesity. But keeping our kids physically fit isn’t the only benefit of play. Play increases creativity, social skills, and risk assessment. Plus, it’s just fun!
Want to get in on the fun? The Play Together Tour will be making 5 more stops in the coming weeks in Sacramento, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, and Kissimmee. You can register for the free event and get ready for a day of play with your family.
What do you and your family do for fun?

Looks like it was a fun event. Sad I couldn’t make it. We have our own Sunday Fundays to keep us going where we play games and do fun things.

YES! We are a very playful family. We are known to start up water gun battles at a drop of a hat (and we take no prisoners) and family game night is usually family game “nights”… we play as often as we can! And we are always silly.

We love spending time as a family and an event like this definitely sounds like something that would be a lot of fun for us. I don’t know how well we’d work together, but we would definitely get the job done.
