My children head back to school on Monday. To be perfectly honest, I’m an emotional wreck. I don’t know whether to be happy that I’ll have a silent home again during the day or be devastated that I’ll have a silent home again during the day.
I’m usually not this indecisive, folks.
I seriously go back and forth throughout the day depending on how much their grinding on my last nerve. For some reason, over the summer, they seem to have lost all common sense and now think it’s okay to jump on the bed and make a homemade slide in their rooms with their mattresses.
Who are these kids and what did they do with mine?
I’ve never had to be on blood pressure medication before, but I’m thinking it might be time. I heard a loud thud from upstairs the other day and I just knew I’d see one or all of them falling through the ceiling at any second. Thankfully the sound of falling bodies on plywood and carpet from an upper floor is just amplified some how. Thankfully. No one was hurt and come to find out, they were trying to body surf, upstairs, with an old cardboard box.
And that, folks, is the reason I wake up in the morning looking like this; needing that first cup of morning coffee that kind of paves the way for the rest of the day.
Thankfully with the help of my wonderfully, amazing Keurig machine (seriously the greatest invention ever), I can get that morning cup of hot OR iced coffee before their active little toes even hit the carpet.
Because y’all, I have to be ready when those little toes hit the carpet. Because once they’re up, they don’t stop until bedtime. And it’s tiring. It’s draining. And some days, it’s downright torture. So sending them off to school might not be that bad of an idea, after all.
But a good dose of caffeine helps me push through the early, rushed mornings of school days. Getting three kids dressed, bellies full, and teeth brushed is no joke, especially when it all has to be done before 7:19am. The bun on top of my head no make-up look is justified. In my book anyway.
And then they’re off and so begins the eight hours of silence…
When they’re all gone and off to school though, I miss their little smiling faces and sweet voices. But I sure do enjoy being able to sit down at my computer in my office without interruption for eight hours. I feel so neurotic at times, y’all. I want them home with me, and then I don’t. I can’t wait for the silence, and then I miss their laughter. Gah! This parenting gig is no joke.
But at the end of the day, when you lay your head down on your pillow at night, just remember that you’re doing your best, mom! Moms, it’s okay to need some time to yourself, away from the giggling and chatter. You need time to refuel and adjust your focus. You’re perfectly normal. So no mom guilt, okay? Enjoy your time, grab a cup of coffee, and sit in silence. I won’t judge you.
Making iced coffee with your Keurig is super simple and fast. It makes for a speedy caffeine fix in the mornings.

Caffeine is a must some days, it relieves my headaches. With 5 kids it is my energy booster!

Love it! I am not a huge coffee drinker but I do drink soda right in the mroning. Coffee sometimes hurts my stomach or I would drink iced coffee probably every morning, it is SO good!

Summer for me just wasn’t long enough. We dropped our daughter off at college the other day, and I’m hoping it’s not two or three months before she decides she wants to come home for the weekend!

I use my Keurig machine ALL the time, but not for coffee. I like hot tea and iced beverages!

My son started school back week before last and I was so sad to see summer end. I think where I have an only child it is different since he doesn’t have siblings to bicker and fight with. And he is content to hang in his room reading a lot, when he isn’t outside, so I do get plenty of quiet time. However, he loves school, so I’m happy now. 🙂 As for caffeine… I bleed caffeine. 🙂

Benjamin can’t start his day without his coffee too 🙂

Honestly, the best decision I ever made was to homeschool the boys, it is just what works for us. That said, I definitely need a dose of caffeine in my system everyday to be able to cope!

I have mixed feelings about school for other reasons mainly because I have to get up earlier and have to ‘remind’ my boys to do their homework. However I like the schedule of school and my daughter prefers to be at school with her friends.

I am also enjoying my daily alone time while my own three kids are in school. A good dose of caffeine definitely helps me enjoy my days a little more.

Oh I know the feeling! Time alone is critical for some much needed fueling up with more energy. The kids always have much more energy than us moms.

I love iced coffee, that’s my favorite way to drink it when it’s flavored.

I’m not a coffee-drinker, but I love hot chocolate or Vitamin Water from my Keurig! Those 8 hours of silence are awesome, aren’t they?!
