This toy is sew cute! The Lalaloopsy Littles: Sew Cute Patient features the character Stumbles Bumps ‘n’ Bruises. You’ll agree she’s aptly named when you see the doll has a few ouchies: a cast on one foot, scratches on her nose, and cut on her forehead.
The whole Lalaloopsy line reminds me a lot of the styling of stop-motion animation. Perhaps it’s the button eyes also seen in the movie Coraline that really locks the two together stylistically. However, this quirky doll has a look all her own. I love the attention to detail in this toy, like the crotched pattern on the bear. There are stitch marks adding to the illusion she was sewn. Her tiny bathrobe even has pockets!
Your little doctor can make this doll, and her accompanying pet bear, all better using the fun accessories. The doll comes with a child-sized stethoscope for your doctor-in-training. When listening to her heart, you’ll hear all sorts of silly sounds like a frog croaking, clock ticking, and spring boinking. Another fun accessory is Stumbles Bumps ‘n’ Bruises’s sippy cup which has disappearing liquid.
A feature of this toy is that you can doctor her up using the medicine bottle and heart-shaped bandage. Using warm water, you can wash away her woes (the scratches on her nose and cut upon her forehead). These marks are faint to begin with. In fact, I didn’t even notice the dots on her nose until I read the instructions. These marks reappear when the temperature of the doll’s face returns to normal. The pet bear is repaired by bandaging his ears and replacing his arm and leg casts. The limbs are quite easy to remove and replace.
This toy is recommended for doctors aged 4-104 (thankfully, I fit in the range because I’ve called dibs on this one). Although my 4-year-old is past the age where I worry about her swallowing small parts, I know that she would lose the pieces. The bear’s eyes caused me grief as I had to move the living room couch to retrieve one. I’d recommend keeping a close eye on your child when playing with this one; otherwise, you’ll end up with a one-legged bear rather quickly.
The website says “she’s a perfect patient who always takes her medicine, loves to wear bandages, and is sure she’s coming down with the sillies.” What a great example for those of us who may not have the easiest time taking our medicine! I think any doctor in training would adore having this doll to attend to!
