Cool down this summer with a Skinny Strawberry Kiwi Granita!
I’m pretty sure wherever you live in the US right now you’re probably feeling the effects of the summer heat. Here in Texas, it’s a scorcher. My husband picked me up at the airport yesterday evening around 6:30pm and when we got in his car it was a whopping 100 degrees. That’s not particularly above the normal here in Texas at around 3pm, but it usually starts dropping off. It was a bit of a surprise to see the temperature that high in the evening.
Just like everyone else, we look for ways to keep cool in the summer weather. We love milkshakes and ice cream cakes, but we also love granitas, especially a Skinny Strawberry Kiwi Granita.
A granita is a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar, water and various flavorings, in this case strawberry and kiwi. It is related to sorbet and Italian ice; however, in most of Sicily (where this icy dessert originated), it has a coarser texture. What’s great about a granita is that you can make it at home without any fancy, schmancy machines, like an ice cream maker.
I’m sure many of us already have a food processor so I don’t really consider that a fancy, schmancy machine. But if you don’t have one, get one. Mine comes in handy all the time in my kitchen.
But back to the Skinny Strawberry Kiwi Granita. Here’s the recipe. I think you’ll be surprised at how easy they are to make.
