Allergies got you down? Here are 10 tips for reducing seasonal allergies and their symptoms.
Y’all, I absolutely adore spring. The warmer weather, the flowers blooming, the birds chirping…I love everything about spring.
Except allergies.
This is a partnered post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Why does the beauty of the season have to be dampened by red, watery, itchy eyes?
Sorry for the extreme closeup, but my goodness, look at those eyes? Between all the watering and rubbing, I’m surprised they aren’t any worse than they are.
If you are an allergy sufferer, just like me, know that you are not alone. There is an estimated 50 million Americans that suffer from allergies. That is one in five Americans. It’s so common that allergy is the fifth leading chronic disease in the U.S. among people of all ages, and the third most common chronic disease among children under 18 years old.
Symptoms of an eye allergy include itching, redness, tearing, a burning sensation, watery eyes, the feeling of a foreign object in your eyes, and can even cause swelling and puffiness of the eyelids. The most popular airborne allergies are pollen, pet dander, grass, dust, weeds and mold.
The good news about seasonal allergies, is that they’re seasonal. Thankfully I don’t have to suffer with eye allergies year round, but when I do, I like being able to get relief, even if it’s temporary. Visine-A Eye Allergy Relief Eye Drops combine an antihistamine with a redness reliever to temporarily relieve eye itchiness and redness, which helps your eyes get back to normal. As you notice symptoms, you can apply one to two drops, up to four times per day. If you wear contacts, you should remove your contacts, apply eye drops, and wait 15 minutes before placing the contacts back into your eye.
10 Tips for Reducing Seasonal Allergies & Symptoms
Indoor Tips:
- Wash your linens and clothes regularly.
- Keep doors and windows shut to reduce the amount of pollen and other outdoor allergens that make their way inside.
- Vacuum and dust often to reduce indoor allergens, such as dust and pet dander.
- Run the air conditioner or air purifier to sift out allergens. Make sure to keep those air filters clean and replace them regularly.
- Put allergy proof covers on pillows, mattresses and comforters to ward off dust mites.
Outdoor Tips:
- Check the pollen count before going outside each day – pollen counts tend to be highest 5 – 10AM each morning.
- Shower after being outdoors to remove allergens that may have stuck to you and your clothing. Use a sterile saline eye wash to flush allergens out of your eyes.
- Do not hang laundry to dry outdoors because allergens can stick to the clothes.
- Wear glasses or sunglasses because they act as a barrier or shield to minimize allergens from sticking to your eyes.
- If you prefer to wear contact lenses, choose a daily disposable lens, which can minimize accumulation of allergens as well. Contact lens wearers can use Visine-A Eye Allergy Relief, but need to remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses after using the drops.
