In Texas our summers are pretty hot. It’s only June and we’ve already seen temperatures in the 100’s. Needless to say, we spend a lot of time indoors during the hottest part of the day. Since Independence Day is just around the corner, we’ve been busy making patriotic crafts, like these Toilet Paper Roll Painted Fireworks and Popsicle Stick American Flags.
I have a habit of buying clearance craft supplies even when I don’t need them so that I always have supplies on hand for easy crafts. I had all the supplies we needed to make these Popsicle Stick American Flags on hand, so not only was it a fun craft, it didn’t cost me much of anything.
Who else just loves clearance craft supplies?
Popsicle Stick American Flags
What You’ll Need:
- 5 jumbo popsicle sticks
- 2 popsicle sticks
- glue (or other form of adhesive)
- paint (red, white, and blue)
Paint three jumbo popsicle sticks red and the remaining two jumbo popsicle sticks white. Set aside and allow to dry.
Once the paint is dry, flip the sticks over and align them red, white, red, white, red. With the smaller popsicle sticks, trim off the ends with a pair of sharp scissors, and apply them to the back of the larger sticks with glue or other form of adhesive longways along the sides. Set aside and allow the adhesive to dry.
Once the adhesive is dry, flip the flag over where the painted side of the sticks are showing. With the blue paint, paint a rectangular shape on the left side of the upper part of the flag. Allow to dry. Use the white paint to create stars on the blue portion of the flag. Allow to dry. Display proudly.
These Popsicle Stick American Flags were such an easy and fun craft for the kids to make.
