Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Oral care is very important to me and I’m a stickler about my family brushing our teeth.  However, the one thing that I’m not very good at is flossing.  I don’t know why, but I absolutely hate to floss.  Thankfully my children haven’t picked up on this and still love to floss.  I always do really good after my semi-annual dental visits, but somehow I always revert back to my non-flossing ways.  Hopefully the Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet that I was sent to review will help me keep my teeth and gums in tip-top shape.

I received the Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been testing it out since.  The setup was extremely easy and the quick start guide was really handy and made setup a breeze.  The system comes with a large reservoir that holds 650mL of liquid. The reservoir cover features a built-in tip storage which makes it very easy to keep your tips organized and all in one area. The unit includes 6 tips:

  • 2 Standard Jet Tips
  • 1 Orthodontic Tip
  • 1 Pik Pocket™ Tip
  • 1 Toothbrush Tip
  • 1 Tongue Cleaner

The Waterpik Ultra also features advanced pressure control with 10 settings for individual needs.  The contemporary, compact design makes it a suitable accessory for your bathroom counter top.  If you choose not to put it on your counter top, it is compact enough to fit in a small cabinet or closet.

After my husband and I got the machine primed and ready to go, I decided that I would try it first.  I tried the Pik Pocket tip first.  I seriously wished I would have had my husband recording it.  By the time I was finished the mirror and countertop was covered with water.  It wasn’t anybody’s fault but my own.  When I first started squirting the water in my mouth, somehow it squirted right back out.  It was hilarious and the hubby and I had a blast while trying to figure this bad boy out.  After using it for a few seconds, I figured out which angle to use, how to position the tip in my mouth, how to almost close my mouth but not all the way, etc.  By the time I was done, I was a pro.  Or it seemed like it anyway.

Here are some of the benefits of using the Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet from their website:

  • Clinically proven to be up to 93% more effective than dental floss at reducing gingival bleeding and up to 52% more effective at reducing gingival inflammation.
  • Specially-designed orthodontic tip with tapered brush is clinically proven to remove three times as much plaque and significantly reduce bleeding in orthodontic patients when compared to floss.
  • Removes plaque biofilm subgingivally and interproximally.
  • Massages and stimulates gingival tissue

Since I have a problem with flossing, using the Waterpik is the perfect alternative for me. The adjustable settings are my favorite feature of this machine. I can change the settings while I’m using the machine. I use a stronger setting for my gums around my back teeth and and a lighter setting for my gums around my front teeth. Be very careful on setting 10. It is pretty powerful.  I also like that you can stop the flow of water by simply pushing a button on the handle.  I didn’t know this at first and squirted water all over the bathroom.

Overall I am totally getting used to using the Waterpik after brushing my teeth. The warm water massages my gums and is actually quite relaxing. The more I use the Waterpik, the easier it is and the more effective I am. The only downside I see is that the machine only comes in white. I would like to see a black model or even a chrome.

Buy:

The Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet is available at many online and brick and mortar stores in the US and Canada.  When I priced it on Amazon it was originally $59 but it is marked down to $49.
